Red’s World Cup Daily Round Up 11/07/2010

Spain stunned the Netherlands to win their first World Cup on Sunday in sensational fashion with a goal by Andres Iniesta in the last minutes of extra time.

It wasn’t the best WC final. To be honest, it was a poor game. A hard game to watch. The Dutch disappointed as they didn’t show much football and didn’t make Howard’s Webb work easier. Spain was the better side on the pitch and the deserved to win.

Holland  –Spain 0:1

Fernando Torres only joined the action for the second period of extra time, after replacing David Villa with the scores goalless and the game seemingly heading for penalties.

Dirk Kuyt was replaced by Hamburg’s Eljero Elia. Ryan Babel had to watch the match from the bench.

The Dutch must blame themselves for their poor game. They were down to 10 men as Andres Iniesta picked up a pass from Cesc Fabregas to fire home from close range four minutes from the final whistle. And they all went crazy. Spain went crazy. Holland … there was only big silence in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and the rest of the country.

So Fernando Torres and Pepe Reina will return to Anfield next month as World Cup winners.

Congratulations, lads!!

But Liverpool will be keeping their fingers crossed that the injury which forced Torres to leave the field before the final whistle isn’t as bad as first feared. The striker left the field immediately and wasn’t involved in the immediate post-match celebrations among his teammates on the final whistle, but he reappeared in time to collect his World Cup winners medal. Let’s hope it’s nothing serious … It’s just can’t be!!!

The other sad thing is, that this was the end of the World Cup! We have to wait four long years for the next one. But well, let’s just enjoy the moment and let’s feel happy for our Spanish Reds!

¡¡¡Campeones, campeones!!!
