From the country that brought us Abba, Volvo and Ikea there comes a young sensation called Ola Toivonen.
At age 24 the young Swede has taken the Dutch league by storm, scoring 24 goals in his 49 appearances for PSV Eindhoven and now he has been linked with L.F.C.. Many newspapers are reporting that Liverpool have tabled a £9 million bid for the Swedish striker. Unless PSV get too greedy and demand much more money I have a feeling that this might actually happen. Good to note the Ola’s number is 7 and it is interesting that Joe Cole’s number was changed after it was originally reported that he was going our new No 7. Maybe Roy already had Ola on his mind? The No 7 was King Kenny’s number and the last few players to wear the number didn’t fulfill the expectation of such a precious shirt. Robbie Keane and Harry Kewell who were the last two players to wear the number both came to Liverpool with high expectations but unfortunately it simply didn’t happen.
So again unless PSV demand a huge fee, my bet is that Ola Toivonen will become Liverpool’s new No 7 before the transfer window closes.

He’ll be very much the versatile attacker that’ll play a lot but in not one place and not consecutive games.
That’s not a number 7, that’s a number 15, a number 13 or maybe a number 11.
Who ever we sign, we need to hurry up and do it. Our squad was looking ok but now aquilani is going out on loan that’s an extra space we need to fill. Toivonen looks decent and he can play up front or just behind in midfield so I guess he can cover for both positions.
I like what I’ve seen. No mather what shirt number he gets,if he can scores goals like that for us: I take that! :-9
Looks like some pretty skillful goals, I’d be happy to have him.
Not that impressed, all these video demonstrate is a good ability to finish against piss poor defending.
First goal although slightly difficult demonstrated little more than a tap in. The second was a set piece so demonstrates very little. The third was appalling defending and he was left unmarked. The fourth was a nice ball through and turn which showed a decent glimpse. The last two were two headers from (yet more) poor marking.
Not impressed with that record in NL either. We know Kuyt had a great goal scoring record there and we all remember the Alfonso Alves rumours… I’m hoping Hodge isn’t only going after British and Nordic players because he has experience there, we have a global scouting network I’d like us to utilise. Hopefully it works out all OK if we do get him.
If this goes through, it’d be fantastic. Then, we can play 4-4-2 AGAIN !

Defending in the EPL is usually much more aggressive than what we can see on the video provided! Can he still score with a players nudging him or pulling on his shirt or kicking at his heals???? If he can then he is our man.
I am a bit sceptical of strikers coming from top clubs in Holland its a big step up and i doubt he will show a lot early on and they need a players who are up and running.

Toivonen will be a force in the Prem if we land him. Eredivisie isn’t a fair yardstick because, let’s be fair, the level of football is low but his international showings have illustrated how capable he is.
He’s big, he’s strong, he can finish and if you put a ball into the air anywhere near him you’ll be picking it out of the back of the net.

First and foremost, he isn’t that good but, as always, we’ve been linked with and now he’s the best thing since sliced bread.
What is it with Roy and Rafa that they can’t just buy a specialist striker (rather than a striker-cum-midfielder or striker-cum-winger) and then actually play him up front rather than on the wing. Admittedly Dirk Kuyt was bought as a striker but was found to have very little footballing ability so he moved back to save he manager’s face.
Mark my words, Ola Toivonen will turn out to be another useless c**t like Dirk Kuyt.

FAO Akash – I admire your passion but you clearly have no idea about football as there are so many things wrong with your posts it’s untrue.
1) Jon Arne Riise is shit, that’s why we finally sold him. He started off good but his own goal against Chelsea was the last straw.
2) Kuyt is not a striker. How much further proof do you need that he’s simply not good enough in that position, or any position for that matter.
3) Van De Vaart is not a winger
4) Martin Kelly is not the next Vegard Heggem
5) Lucas isn’t good enough for LFC, like Kuyt
6) Babel is not good enough for LFC
7) Michael Owen was past his prime years ago – you need to forget the past and move on.
8) Based on your crap assessment and the players we have left, we still need a left back, a left and right winger/midfielder and a couple of strikers at the very least. I also believe we need a pacy centre back, in fact more pace full stop would be appreciated.

we need a striker but we keep getting roumours of the same players peter crouch is a no go he was a ok player for a mid table team who need to play the long ball all the time and that is what we was when he was there we need a creative attacking striker with some skill if we do this we will struggle against the more tougher games with a good back 4 wish i could mention a english striker like that but i struggle to find one theo walcott is the best we have got.
