Raul Meireles Heads To Liverpool

The breaking news this evening, courtesy of The Guardian, is that Liverpool have moved quickly in the search of life after Javier Mascherano to raid Porto for Portugese international Raul Meireles in a £10.7 move.

Meireles starred for Portugal in the recent South Africa World Cup and is understood to have already agreed personal terms with the Reds, in a deal that is already at a very advanced stage with just a medical and signature left pending for the weekend.

Liverpool have been linked with a series of central midfield players since the end of the season including the likes of Scott Parker of West Ham and Steven Defour of Standard Liege to name but two examples. It seems though that the Reds may have a very clear plan in place for the final stages of the transfer window, now that the funds from the sale of Javier Mascherano will be imminently available to them.

With news earlier this afternoon that Paul Konchesky is also expected to be an imminent visitor to the Melwood medical room of Dr Brukner, as he tries to complete his switch from Fulham. All eyes will now be watching with interest as to whether Roy Hodgson & Christian Purslow have an ace up their sleeve in the form of a strikers arrival or more, to add further support to the Liverpool front line headed by Fernando Torres.
