Right let’s get the plus points out of the way.

Firstly Paul Konchesky made a decent debut before having to go off right near the end of the game with a knock. I do hope that is not too serious as he made some really good forward runs from the back in this game, which is a nice thing to have at your disposal.

The other new signing Raul Meireles made a cameo near the end of the game but didn’t really make much impact until he broke forward and very nearly scored a goal, which would have been the winner if he had. Of course he was miles offside so it didn’t count for much, but it was a nice attempt and shows that he is capable of some good play.

Christian Poulsen played the entire game in the middle with Lucas but neither of them were really that active in the game, a lot of that was down to Birmingham who did a good job stopping us play.

Birmingham could very well have won the game but for some fantastic saves from Pepe Reina, Ben Foster at the other end didn’t really have a lot to deal with which was a bit of a disappointment, and we certainly didn’t look like winning the game at any point in the entire match.

Our main problem in this game was a lack of a creative force in the middle of the park, with Gerrard playing just off Torres, whereas if he had played in the centre of midfield, or perhaps they had started with Meireles, then there might have been a bit more of a creative midfield, which might have given us a bit more of edge over Birmingham in this game.

Torres was ok, but still doesn’t really have his shooting boots on at the moment, which is another real shame as Birmingham are about the only team that he hadn’t scored against in the premiership, so today would have been a good day to break that particular duck.

I don’t really have much more to say about this game, but we are really going have to play better than this next Sunday, as we will be well and truly tonked!

Liverpool: Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Konchesky, Maxi, Poulsen, Lucas, Jovanovic, Gerrard, Torres.
