Liverpool Vs Birmingham (Player Ratings)

Posted by

It was a cagey match against Birmingham in which we should have had a couple of penalties but a  point is ok considering that they had 2 free headers that world class reina saved.

Reina: 9.5,Probably the only reason we came out with a point in this match, simply world class.

Johnson:6,An average match by our right back, was good going forward but struggled against the birmingham strikers.

Carragher:6,Was shaky at times but made a few good interceptions.

Skrtel:5.5,Was relatively poor and allowed birmingham 2 free headers on goal.

Konchecky:6.5,Had a good debut before being substituted due to injury which hopefully isnt serious.

Maxi:5,Was anonymous throughout the whole match and playing Babel would have been better.

Poulsen:5,5,Had some good moments in the match but was relatively poor but we could see the best of him if played alongside meireles.

Lucas:5,A poor match by the young brazilian lost the ball on more than one occasion and his passing was wayward.

Jovanovic:6,Ran and ran with no end product but with the right service he could shine for us this season.

Gerrard:6.5,Played some good passes and was our most dangerous player on the field.

Torres:5.5,Looked out of shape and wasted a few good chances but should have had a penalty.

Subs:

Agger:(-) Didnt have any influence on the game as he only had the ball a couple of times.

Meireles:6.5, liverpool looked a different side with his introduction and i can’t wait to see him start the game against steaua.

If you disagree with the ratings then do share you opionon as they are all appreciated.

  1. Agree with your rankings. Reina saved our arse. Birmingham played some great balls in but they never should have had those opportunities. Poor marking.

I was pleased with Konchesky today. Seemed very solid. Did well going forward as well.

I don’t rate Paulson at all. I don’t like that Roy prefers him to Lucas. Lucas did have a poor game today getting caught in possession a few times but he still seems more composed on the ball than Paulson. I get nervous whenever Paulson has the ball at his feet.

This was Jovanovic’s best game for me. Worked very hard and had some good runs. Didn’t do much wrong.

Meireles looked very promising. I was thrilled with his runs. Maybe it was because he only had 15 minutes, but he was really trying to open up Brum with his movement. I desperately wish we would have started him. We were a different team for that brief period, also due to the fact that Gerrard was playing deeper as well.

Can’t believe Babel didn’t get a run. Well, actually I can. Too bad.

  2. Carra was no better than Skrtel, Poulson was no better than Lucas, Jovanovich couldn’t move the ball forwards and Hodgson should be included as the worst performer of all on the day (1st sub at 76 mins and only made the second due to injury!?)

  3. The fact that this was a tough game was predictable. Birmingham are very strong at home and their pressing is relentless. Their most dangerous players, same as last season, remain Roger Johnson and Scott Dan: rock solid at the back and a constant menace on set pieces = no wonder the two of them had twp clear-cut chances to put the Blues in front.
Wonderful to see Reina in superb form. Carra seemed tired and Skrtel was awful all afternoon.
All in all a bad performance and we should really relish the point taken.

  4. Too many long balls, too fragile in posession, too many backward or lateral passes.

Not enough work as a team closing down, not enough service to no8 & no9, best 2 onfield players not involved for long periods (due to the poor service and the formation – Stevie not playing deeper).

Reason; the central midfield pairing was too similar too last season – destructive players, not creative. It was a negative approach to leave Raul on the bench and make the changes so late.

1 positive; Pepe was fantastic. 2 points dropped….again.

  5. I have my worries and I presume all Liverpool fans should be worried especially the way the manner and the mentality behind the our team set up especially in every first half of matches we tend to invite pressure from the opposition and we come out on top of our in the 2nd half is this the instruction of Roy Hodgson?if it is it would wreak havoc on us because I believe the team should be buzzing around the whole pitch till the final whistle I hope he wouldn’t set it up this way against Top sides otherwise it would cost us..I miss Joe cole I hope he can make the difference especially in the final third nd Ramieres looks to be good signing..I feared for the worst when Lucas was sub because he looked better off Poulsen..Carragher did well Skrtel wz awful those free headers could have cost us…why can’t play Glen as a winger nd Kelly right back?

  6. Roy HOdgson should not be pleased with our performance at all. We arr livrrpool and liverpool with a nearly full strength side should take three points in this game…

Good ratongs for the playrrs. Spot on

  7. I think Lucas is just poor. On his best day he does a sufficient job but just recieves and passes never tries to conjure up anything, I dearly hope meirles gets the nod ahead of him against united, with Babel and Cole on the wings. Wishful I know.

  8. Lucas is a Poor Lad, I just saw him Tweet- “Hello people ! We did our best against Birmingham, but unfortunately the 3 points didn´t come. Let´s work to face Manchester United!”
What will you do against Man Utd if you call the performance at birmingham your Best… Morielles Needs to play…

    1. Andrew so you attack a current player (Lucas) and then you attack me for putting up a poll to gather people’s opinion of who their most hated (Former) Liverpool player is!!!!!!
