Revealed : The Best Liverpool Keeper Ever (So Far)

Posted by

Thanks to the great site LFCHistory I was able to find stats of all the goal keepers that played for Liverpool.

To come up with this chart I only took those who played at least 100 games, this left me with 16.
Here are how they rank up on goals conceded for the games that they have played.

I consider myself blessed to remember the top 6 play,  it is really interesting to see how the modern keepers all rank so high. Is it the training? The ball, gloves or any other clothing? The pitch? Videos?

As the chart shows Clem & Reina are pretty much neck and neck, it will be interesting to see if Pepe will beat Clem’s record. However to know for sure we will have to wait until Pepe retires or leaves us so I am not in a hurry to find out :-)

  1. One reason it’s the more modern keepers at the top is that the defenders are better tactically nowadays. Actually, just knowing which defenders were in front of which keepers makes a difference. Westerveld is hardly the 4th best keeper in our history purely based on his ability, but having Sami & Stephane in front of him must have helped a lot!

  2. That average is going to reflect the quality of the team as much as the keeper and not sure I would attach much value to it as a GK rating. Actually as far as Pepe’s average is going to be concerned the next couple years it’s likely to be a better indication of owner finances than anything.
