Europa League: Liverpool v Steaua Bucharest Preview

Posted by

Liverpool take to the field once more tomorrow night, trying to move on from their 0-0 Sunday stalemate at St.Andrews with Birmingham as they play host to Steaua Bucharest in the Europa League.

Another European tie means another outing for a Liverpool team including Joe Cole as he looks to grab some more match fitness ahead of facing Man Utd at the weekend, his 3 game ban now complete. But he is likely not to get the chance to build on a  forward partnership with Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard as they both look set to sit out the tie in favour of rest ahead of the trip to Old Trafford.

Roy Hodgson as expected, is set to shuffle his pack one more, but the tie is likely to see both Paul Konchesky and Raul Meireles make their home debuts and Daniel Agger return to the side at centre half. Ryan Babel, Dani Pacheco, Soto Kyrgiakos and Jay Spearing are all in contention for further playing time as is David Ngog who already has 3 Europa goals to his name so far this season.

Steaua have made a good start to their current league campaign and despite going down 1-0 last weekend to Unirea Urziceni, who Liverpool saw off in the Europa League last season, they currently sit third in the league after seven games. The visitors will be without defenders Galamaz and Brandan as well as strikers Onofras and  Bilasco, who are all ineligible having already played in the Champions League qualifiers for Unirea this season.
