We (the fans) can do it better

Aren’t you all a bit annoyed with this? Nerved? Irritated? Shirty? To be honest: I. Am. Sick. Of. It. Of this entire Fernando Torres talks/debates/discussion etc we get served everywhere: telly, tabloids, magazines, internet, twitter, forums, in the pub, in the library, on the bus …. You can’t even go and buy a stupid bread without being said how poor Fernando Torres is playing these days. Oh give me a bloody brake! Give him and yourself a break too!

Everywhere you turn, someone is talking about Torres. He did this, he did that. He ddin’t this and he didn’t that. He’s to blame for this, he’s to blame for that. Yer wa? Sure, it’s easy to criticize someone who’s making headlines, and easy to repeat what the others say. In fact: it’s poor. It doesn’t make any sense. It. Is. Boring.

So what’s next then? Is Torres to blame for Chernobyl?  For the hole in the ozone layer? For the earth warming? I’m sure someone will come up with this sooner or later. Jamie R. perhaps? He’s THE pundit, isn’t he?

The fact is, not only Torres is a shadow of himself: the whole team is. The whole team keeps on struggling, but also improving. So all we need is to be patient! Critics do not help at all. Not a bit. But it’s the easiest way, isn’t it? Especially for someone who hasn’t got his own opinion and just repeats “the pundits”.

I mean, can we imagine, under which pressure Torres is living? We can’t. This pressure is immense. Matches like this one we’ve very recently lost do not ease this pressure. Torres still is suffering from injuries, he played three years without a break (injuries do not count as a brake, do they?), world cups, Europe cups, confederations cups … This man is tired! He has the right to be tired. He’s just a human! I am sure he’s not reading what is being told and written on him, but he also can avoid picking this or that. It’s impossible, as you can imagine, and I believe you can. This didn’t make thing better and easier for him. This only increase the pressure. Sounds logical, doesn’t it? It does me. So, please, leave Fernando alone and focus on football, will you? Thank you.

Furthermore, we are Liverpool Football Club. We do not need poor excuses like that. The entire club is struggling, and it’s not a single player’s fault. If a match has been lost: the TEAM lost it. The team lost it as a whole. But it’s easy to shoot when “the target” can defend himself, isn’t it?

And yes, I do know what you all will think now: she’s a woman, she’s defending him because she fancies him. No, I do not defend Fernando Torres because his pretty. I defend him because I’m able to think independently, and because I am being realistic.

  1. 5 games 5 points Only 4 goals scored ( chelsea 24 ) , We’re even behind Wolves, I say give Hodge son 5 more games should he manage to secure only 5 or 6 poitns…..SACK HIM, that would show problem is also ON THE PITCH….

  2. Amanda u are correct.Every1 runs their mouths when matters concerning LFC arise and we fans are not even helping it.These idiots shld give Nando a breathing space. He is stil one of d best.

  3. Great post. In fact, Liverpool can’t pass ‘unpunished’ through such a huge reformulation. Yes, the boss changing is the team changing. Meireles, no matter how good player he is, would never change Porto’s jersey and put Red’s jersey and play the same. It takes time. As much as Hodgson need time. I know time is something we are tired of deal (Leagues not won). Against United we could prove the improvement. The big change will cost some “confourtable” situations, of course.

  4. Very well said Amanda. As supporters of Liverpool FC, we should stand behind and support each and every members of LFC (i.e. manager, players & staffs). I have faith in Fernando. I have faith in Roy. Heck, I have faith in everyone who is a part of LFC.

PS: To those dimwits who are criticizing Roy & any of the players, can you guys even do a better job? I don’t think so. So just shut up, thank you very much.

  5. I think you are ablolutely right!
And I would like to back your point up by some simple facts and statistics, since some people started making comparisons and point-counting so early in the season.

We played 5 matches in which we made 5 points, true.
3 of these matches were against 3 of the top 5 teams in the table right now – Arsenal, City & of course ScumU.
If I’m not mistaken, we’re the only club to have played these 3 tough matches so far.

So a simple little comparison would be to Blackburn & Sunderland who both played against Arsenal & City (and haven’t played scumU, Chelski or Tottenham yet!) and have only 5 and 6 points, respectively, and they’re not far above us in the table (places 14 and 13).

Another fun fact is if we take the other teams above us (places 6-12) we have:
    * 2 teams that played NEITHER of the top 5 (Aston Villa & Birmingham).
    * 3 teams that only played ONE of the top 5 (These would be Bolton, Fulham & Newcastle).
    * 2 teams that only played TWO of the top 5 (West Brom & Blackpool).

This makes it really unfair to start comparing us to the rest of the table just yet..

Fun fact no. who’s-counting is that in places 1-16 in the table, the points are actually split between only 6 places, which means that getting more points will drive us up the table more quickly than we think.

And last but not least – We’re ONLY 3 points behind 5th place.

Now, it might come as a surprise but I am actually not the best statistician in the world, but it seems to me that this is not looking all that bad for us!

So I believe that in the bottom line we do need to give it more time and patience, and panic is useless at this point.
As liverpool fans, the best fans in the world, we should know better than to start blaming the gaffer, the players of the referees.
What we really need to do is give them our full support, hold our heads up high and keep believing, which is what we know to do best.

    YNWA.

  6. Well said! I’m sick of these wan**rs slating Woy too, the animation before the match spoke volumes in my eyes. Man U have had arl whiskey face managing while we have had 5 different managers. Lets just hope Woy starts putting his own stamp on things, we look a decent team now playing 442 FOR FUCK SAKE GIVE NANDO SOME HELP. YNWA

  7. Thank you for the positive feedback, KOPites! We shouldshow the world we’re the best fans in REAL, not only on paper.

    I have faith in us.

  8. .These players are paid millions…so buck up and handle these pressure positively.tiredness is the name of the game..everybody is tired.this is liverpool f.c we talking about..shame to the players.if they ever think they deserve to wear the red jersey…please at least put up a 4 stars performance this weekend

  9. @kaimi. It does have nothing to do with money. If you’re tired, you’re tired. If the pressure is to high, no money of the world can change that. Everybody is tired … what’s that for a point? You do not get it. This is it.

  10. If you tired..then admit it.let others suppose ngog or babel may take over his duty..we are paid to do our job well.if we are not performing someone have to tell us off.i can’t anything wrong complaining players below par.we can comments yet with patience

  11. I truly agree with what you say about the team and Torres. Both are exhausted from the rush of the past few years. What is lacking is the back-up manpower (or perhaps too much reliance on Gerrard and Torres instead of giving Ngog and Babel more chances? But those are Rafa’s mistakes). People just need to give Torres a bit more love and tlc, and not conditionally that corresponds to how well he plays. What happened to YNWA?

Your article left me slightly bemused. No one accused you of siding Torres just because your a woman. You have every right to put your views out just for the very fact you love Liverpool.

  12. Amanda a woman!? No wonder she has alot of patience in store. Woman seems to be more lenient in their views..just be more careful.. d other party may take advantage.

  13. @kaimi you didn’t even read till the end, did you? otherwise you’d have niticed the last paragraph … And you see, you’re thinkig in the way I knew you will – woman or not. I’m just beeing realistic. That’s all. The fasn are hoping for miracles, but they won’t happen. Not after a few matches. Not in this season. We do need time, and it’s better to every of us to finaly face it (men or a woman).

Otherwise we keep on running in the circle.

We can’t compare those players with the likes of Rush and co. Those were different times. The game was different, it all changed.
And you may say what you want: money have nothing to do that. To replace the players? Don’t you think Roy wouldn’t have done that if he had the right option?
Babel … give me a break! I dunno if you noticed: Ngog played …

@Rebecca I just wanted to say it BEFORE someone says, that I defend him, because he’s pretty, bla, bla, bla … you know how it is. I have to fight with this stereotype every day at work.

In any case: thank you for reading.

  14. Rah rah sis boom bah, but it doesn’t change the fact that Nando has looked more like a journeyman Championship striker than a world beater this year.

  15. The only reason i can suggest for torres starting the game is to get back his match fitness n practise.ngog has been doing well so far..no complain for his contribution.well..watching babel play excite me more than torres …emmm..diving?… at least for now.hopefully he will be his former self soon or he ll be living by his reputation.
