Northampton Victorius

I would like to congratulate Northampton Town on their victory tonight at Anfield. You deserved it, we just didn’t play well enough, and you beat us fair and square. We tried to stage a comeback in the second half of extra time, but it was too little too late as far as we were concerned and you could have won the game if it weren’t for Martin Kelly on the goal line. In the end, the best team on the night won and it was the team from League Two.

What is more galling is the fact that out of the eleven players who started the game a lot of them were full internationals, so it was not as though Roy Hodgson picked a team of reserve players with little experience and we still struggled against a team three divisions below us.

Northampton deserves all the plaudits for this. We deserve nothing from tonight.

  1. I agree with the article. Well done to the Cobblers.

This will be a difficult season of transition for us. We won’t win that many games, we won’t progress far in competitions. But if that’s what we need to do to have the right manager and owners in place come next summer then so be it.
