Liverpool 1 Blackpool 2

Liverpool 1 Blackpool 2 Sunday 3rd October 2010

Well that’s a right mess we are in and no doubt about. 18th in the premier league after 7 games with 6 points to our name, and not much sign of improvement either. I hate to sound negative, but at the rate we are going we are going to be lucky if we finish mid-table!

I just can’t work out what has gone wrong, and who is mostly to blame for our current position: is it Roy Hodgson, or is it the players because even though Roy picks the team, it is still the players, at the end of the day, who go out and play the games and play as a team and go at the opposition and actually want to win the game.

I am half and half about this as I think it is too early to make a rash decision about Hodgson and I am not too sure that a change of manager is a good idea at the present moment in time, as we will then have someone with a different way of playing, and time will be needed for that to gel together, and do we really have the time to go through all of that again?

It might work, but there is a good chance that nothing will change and we would have got rid of a good manager for very little reason. Yes, if we finish the season in the bottom half of the table, or heaven forbid, get relegated then yes, sack him, because then there would be a concrete reason to do so, which I don’t think that there is at the moment.

For some reason we do not seem to be playing as a team, and the players don’t even seem to want to win games, or at least don’t often appear to. I just can’t put my finger on what is going wrong, I really can’t, we have some good players but at the moment these players are not performing and they really need to start doing so pronto, or we are going to finish in a league position that we would normally never consider possible.

Despite this I do have to congratulate Ian Holloway and his players for a well deserved win. He got his tactics absolutely right and Roy Hodgson got it wrong in the first half and they were good for a 2 goal advantage. In the second half we played much better, and played Blackpool off the park, and managed to get a goal back, but they prevailed and defended stoutly, and in the end deserved their victory.

There is now an international break before our next game at Everton and hopefully we will discover whatever the rot is and stamp it out asap.
