Regarding sacking Roy,
I can’t say much, we saw earlier when he was appointed a lot of fans disagreed, we wanted King Kenny to take over but he didn’t. So we’re moving on, supporting Roy, as we’re loyal to our managers whomsoever they might be.
But his tactics seems, so far, bleak at best, we struggled in all of our games in the League. and lets not start pointing towards the Northampton disaster. I think the game at Utrecht was also dismal.
Team will improve but he needs to change tactics, and tweak a weebit with the defensive play.
Clearly, we’re missing a combative hardman in Mascherano, the diff between him and Poulsen is that he runs his lungs off and goes after every ball in front of the back four. But Poulsen is quite stationary and reacts in his own space. Yesterday our midfield were destroyed by the ever present side switches Blackpool are good at.
And we’re lacking width, and Roy had this to say about deploying Raul Meireles on the right;-
“We don’t play with wingers. The way he plays and the way Joe Cole plays, we think (playing wide midfield) is more than suited to their qualities.
I can see now that he wants to employ the diamond system, if I’m right with this, Correct me if I’m wrong, So Joey and Raul is being in the central wide. Thus allowing fullbacks to bomb forward.
But I think this system sucks, its gonna take a hell of a time to get used to. But its not possible. But we really need to gel and get some wins under our belt soon.

great article. I too am lost at the moment. the funny thing is although it is one of our worst defeats for a while. I thought 2nd half was probably one of our best displays of the season in my opinion. I think your right about the system . I would play meireles in the middle with Stevie , cole behind the striker , with kuyt or even Johnson (who still can’t defend by the way) on the right. with either babel or jovanavic on the left. This in my opinion if I was to pick a side would be quite strong . reina Kelly agger carra konchesky at the back. Johnson RM meireles gerrard CM babel LM cole behind Torres. then at least our bench looks quite decent with kuyt ngog jovanovic maxi Lucas Pacheco. what do you reckon lads.

Johnson is no full-back. He was at fault with his bizarre clearance at home to Arsenal and at fault for the penalty yesterday. He reacts too slowly, is regularly caught out of position. It seems to me we only bought him so we wouldn’t lose out on the Crouch transfer fee as Portsmouth approached administration.
He should be tried further up field and if he does cut it there then he should be sold. As for his England position I don’t care.
We need width. We’ve needed it for years. Play Amoo for God’s sake what else have we got.

Time for a reality check people. The people in charge of our club are idiots. We have no money. We have a large amount of very average players and have a shite stadium. We are in a relegation fight and the signs are we’ll struggle to get out of it. If we don’t get out of it soon, we’ll be without two very good players next season. As for King Kenny, why would he do any better than Hodgson? He’s been out of the game for too long. Never go back. I’ve also read that we missed out on signing certain players like Van der Vaart and Roy should have signed him. Why?. Why would he come here instead of Spurs? Because we’ve won the league numerous times and because we’ve been champions of Europe more times than them? Its bollocks. We are where we are and the sooner we get to grips with it the better. Stop living in the past people.

I respect Roy, as a REDs fan i am bounded by the holy trinity relationship (Manager-players-fans). Roy is trying to get his players into his system, and GOD knows when will his system be doing right. He inherited good players from Rafa and other players that he bought as well. Trying to get the players in the system/tactics he wants albeit the fixtures that we are going through doesnt help either. The Reds under Rafa’s system, though not perfect always but effective and efficient most of the time(I know some of you would comment) are something that he should take interest. The Reds we know are good at PRESSURING the opponents, especially at Anfield, high up and forcing them into making errors, during the B’pool game this was non-existent, well not all the time. Pressing high and hard – and fast from the start(That is what B’pool did instead to us),made it easier to create chances, because errors were forced and especially at the attacking third. I hope Roy, in view of him wanting to play to his system would also take a notice of what our players are good at and play to their strengths. Meireles was never a wide player, he is best suited in central midfield. Stevie was not playing well either, he was lost as Poulsen. Where was our midfield when the 2nd goal was scored? They were in Barca and Madrid……
