  1. I don’t know why you laugh at the Shawcross link. He’s young and despite that terrible tackle on Ramsey, he’s proven himself to be a good defender. If we’re going to get in some English players, I wouldn’t be disappointed with him as a choice. Certainly a more sensible English choice than Konchesky.

Klinsmann however is a ridiculous rumor, clearly a wind-up job. If Hodgson does go then I like the odds on Rijkaard. He did well with Barcelona and really laid the foundations for the current player base. With all respect to Galatasaray, I think he deserves a place in a bigger league.

Top 6 would be a good finish, especially with the way this team is currently playing. Yeah, we have a good team with a few, at times, brilliant players but I think Chelsea, United, Arsenal, City and Spurs are better all round. Top four will be really tough without a few crucial buys in January and a rethink of the often embarrassing tactics that we’ve gone with so far.

  2. Wow you lot are a bunch of hypocrites.
What happened to “thanks but no yanks”

    Hypocrisy @ Its best!!

    1. GlazerOut as a Yank myself who lives close to your owner not all Yanks are bad.

There are bad owners and there are good owners, nationality has nothing to do with it, ask Newcastle.

  3. As an American fan of LFC, I’m cautiously very optimistic about John Henry’s group coming in. I’ve been able to watch them operate for a few years because the Red Sox play in the same division as the MLB team I support, the Tampa Bay Rays, and they have done a very good job rejuvenating that team, ending their 86-year championship drought with 2 trophies in 4 years. Some fuss has been made about the Red Sox not qualifying for this year’s MLB playoffs, but when that is mentioned, the structure of MLB must be considered. MLB is composed of two leagues, the American and National Leagues. Each League is composed of 3 divisions, each division has 5 teams. Of the 30 teams in MLB, only 8 – 4 from each League – qualify for the playoffs: The winner of each division and then the team with the best win-loss record that didn’t win a division. The division that the Red Sox and Rays play in, the AL East, is considered the toughest because of the presence of the Red Sox, Rays, and the New York Yankees. It is impossible for all 3 of these teams to qualify for the playoffs in the same season. This year, my Rays won the division, winning one more game overall than the Yankees. The Red Sox were third, winning 7 fewer games (out of 162) than the Rays, but their record would have given them second place in either of the other 2 AL divisions and ninth-best out of all 30 teams. They also scored the second-most runs out of all teams.

For many years the AL East pennant has been the property of either the Red Sox or the Yankees, but in recent years the Rays passed to new ownership who have done wonders with the team. In the first year of new ownership, the Rays advanced to the World Series, and this year are back in the playoffs with the best record in the AL – when the ownership group took over, they specifically studied what Henry’s group did with Boston and modeled themselves on it.

In addition, one of the partners in NESV, Jeffery Vinik, recently purchased the NHL franchise I support, the Tampa Bay Lightning, from our version of Hicks and Gillet, and has made sweeping and welcome changes to the squad, such as bringing in a highly-regarded up-and-coming young coach as well as hiring Steve Yzerman, one of the greatest players in NHL history and a rising star as an executive, as the new general manager. Vinik has been extremely proactive in involving fans in the remake of the franchise and we’re eager to see how they perform this year.

After what LFC fans on Merseyside and beyond have been through due to Hicks and Gillet, supporters have every right to be suspicious of any new owners, but IMO, these guys understand that the way to be successful off the field is to be successful on the field first. They won’t go throwing piles of cash around like Cashchester City, but they will spend on the players they feel are the right fit and will reward the players that perform. Their use of sabermetrics and the Moneyball philosophy has become a trend of teams across MLB and I think that these owners could be a good match. As far as I know, Boston’s fans are the only ones in MLB that sing in the stands during games – the fanbases are really very similar too – Season tickets for the Red Sox at Fenway are passed down through generations of families, all they want are to win championships and beat the NY Yankees, Fenway Park is one of the true iconic stadiums in all of American sports, etc, etc.

I hate to cheer for anything Red Sox related, but this is one I feel pretty good about – I hope!

  4. It’s been a long time since the words “good news” appeared so many times in your news update. Hopefully that’s good news for the future! ;)
