“15 minutes of Anfield” by Steven Gerrard

The first half against Napoli was a disgrace and the players seemed to get more confused and disoriented as the time was running out. Tick-Tack. Tick-Tack. With every minute there was more panic on the pitch and more disbelief on the fan’s faces. “is this never going to end?”, thought the one in the red hoodie. “Oh, boy, it’s going to be a long night”, thought the one with the scarf and the moustache. “God almighty, shall I watch this till the end?”, that was me. Well, I luckily didn’t switched off, but my struggle and confusion was rising with every second.

The most confused being was Christian Poulsen. I genuinely don’t know what he was doing, and I’m sure he doesn’t know it either. Watch the video Christian, watch and blush and if you really have to play in the next fixture: do it bloody better! What was he thinking about? I though with Babel staying at home it can’t go wrong for us, but gosh … Christian, you’re slower and more confused than me! But enough on Poulsen, there was enough said yesterday. He knows he was poor.

I think N’Gog did it well, and Raul Meireles with his two really good chances to score. It was just a bit too wide. The goals doesn’t bite, lads! The goalie might do, but not the goal, you mustn’t be afraid. I like Raul’s performances more and more. Because he settled in so quickly, that he already looks like a regular part of our midfield, like he’s been there for ages. I love that and I liked his performance overall. Maybe it’s just me, but his presence gives me this feeling…. as though you know you can rely on him. Glen Johnson looked better and very solid, too.

Our youngsters? Jonjo Shelvey did a brilliant job. It was his first start in a red shirt an Anfield, and it impressed me how well he could deal with the pressure. Nathan Eccleston was a threat and made a positive contribution as a Steven Gerrard inspired Liverpool turned the game around.

Speaking of whom … Till our Captain came on it was just one big disappointment. But with Gerrard on the pitch the team seemed to work properly, it all seemed to be on the right place, like in a puzzle, if you know what I mean. He was in full inspirational mode as he scored his hat trick in less than 15 minutes. Pang, pang, pang! It was vintage Gerrard. Give him the ball and he’ll not only score but inspire the whole team, the crowd in the stadium and the fans in front of the telly. Simply Steven Gerrard magic.

As humble as Steven is he said: “Everyone played their part tonight. I’m sure I’ll get the headlines but it certainly wasn’t just about me.”

Is there more to say about our Captain? Are we able to love him more than we already do?

Y.N.W.A. Captain, my Captain!
