Gutted

Posted by

Simply gutted about the result today we sure deserved something from the game.

We played very well in the first half and in the 42nd minute Martin Skrtel opened the score. Both Maxi and Torres both missed good opportunities however we went into the dressing room leading 1-0.

The 2nd half saw a few controversial calls from Martin Atkinson including a penalty to Spurs that Defoe missed and then Kuyt was brought down in the box and nothing was given. Spurs tied the game when a Modric pass with deflected in the net by Skrtel.

Into injury time and the game looked set to end 1-1 however Lennon beat Reina after Konchesky fell asleep and made it 2-1.

And to top our evening off Jamie Carragher has dislocated his shoulder and will be out for a few weeks.

  1. To be honest, torres is rubbish and must go in Jan. He has be nothing but a selfish, self- centered player. The team shoulb be built around LFC not torres or anybody else, he must go, he is destroying team morals. UNWA

  2. maxi and torres should have won the game for us today. lucas and meireles were class in midfield. very very unlucky liverpool. Atkins got a couple of wrong decisions, the meireles yellow was unfair and so was the penalty awarded to spurs. i don t think kuyt’s was a penalty. there was an improvement in our play however. come on you reds ynwa

  3. I think “gutted” sums things up.

All our players played well but made occasional mistakes (heck, no player has a perfect game very often though). There was a few lax passes, a few missed seeming sitters, a few out of position defenders.

All in all though we had a go away from home against an in-form side. I’m actually surprised we ended the game with 11 on the pitch such was the having-a-go ferocity of our team!

It’s weird, but even though we came away with no points and Carra is injured (also Ngog but his did not look serious), I think the side can be proud of their display (I was proud of it) and build on it.

It will be very interesting to see who captains the side now that Steve G and Carra are injured. Having Steve G & Carra unavailable at the same time has not happened for a very long time (I think) and as they’re the heart of Liverpool, it will be interesting to see who takes on that mantle and steps up to the plate, hopefully there will be a fight for said plate :-)

Pepé is the obvious choice but I never like to see a goalie as captain – players looking for guidance are looking the wrong way when being passed instructions – never good.

Very interesting times ahead. This season is turning into a right roller-coaster.

Good luck Roy & the boys, from my point of view YNWA! and that goes for ALL of you, from me.

  4. KONCHESKY WORST BUY EVER!!!
Again, his mistakes cost us games.

THE AURELIO FOR NGOG CHANGE WAS THE MOST COWARD DECISION EVER!!!!
Babel or even Jovanovic were the logic options!!
We could have gone 2-0 very early in the game!!

    HODGSON OUT!!!
The “backs to the wall” defending, the counter attack, sit back and defend deep are very usefull RESOURCES but THEY CANT BE OUR ONLY STRATEGY!!!!
Enough with the “small club” tactics!!!!!
This club is too much for you to handle, roy…

  5. Jamie Lazaroff:

Shut the hell up! We’re not concerned who we play…we love playing the mancs. So it’s not a bad day for us.

  6. GUTTED? Surely everyone is used to losing by now. 10th on the table is about right for a mid table side.

  7. We deserved victory from that game, so coming away with nothing is a bitter pill to swallow. Maxi should have made it 2 followed by Torres 3 in the first half and then the 2nd Torres again should have made it 4. We had the most clear cut chances, yet once again sloppy passing, panicking at the back and we suffer. Roys decision to bring on Aurelio for Ngog when it should have been Babel or Jovanovich as an attacking player not a defensive player playing in an offensive position, basically he was happy with a point, when we bossed the game and had the best chances and we were creating more. The only person who needs to go is Roy not Torres……YNWA……SACK ROY TO BRING BACK THE JOY

  8. I have to agree that ‘gutted’ kind of sums it up. Probably the best team display this season. We didn’t stop playing in the 2nd half. The own goal was a case of not stopping the player earlier and unluckiness on our part. Passing was short, crisp and fast. The midfield worked hard. Bale didn’t have a chance to do much. But it was more a case of the players doing what was expected in the right positions than strategy. We didn’t give them a chance on the ball and double up when needed to. Hardworking was what we were. Spurs for all the talk are just a much better sped up punt the ball team. The chances we created were more through clever passing. Which makes the loss a whole lot harder to take. Like the saying goes, we really regretted not converting the chances when we had them. Torres played a different role. Making the passes for those playing off him. if there was a vote for a beautiful pass, that turnaround instep scoop into Maxi’s path was a wonder to witness. If Reina whom I believe should be the captain was ok with it, pass the band to Torres. It would bring him to another level. We’re still near enough to 4th. So come on REDS. Let’s push them on. YNWA.

  9. The players should have themselves to blame not Roy,we should have killed off the game with the combination of Maxi’s nd Torres’s both missing the best chances of the game..Torres should be ashamed of himself after he failed to play up to his potential lacked pace nd judgement, how i wished it was Gerrad that had those chances he would have taken them by delight.they are too many crap players in our team lacking quality replacment.Jovanovic hasnt been impressive lately however i dont expect to see him on,Aurelio came on and shored up our midfield,i had fear d worst since Carragher left injured i sensed we could loose as our backline lacked direction since his immediate injury exit,Soto Kyrgiakos wasnt even prepared physically and mentally we all seen when Carragher gesticulated @ him to come on upon his exit.my best performer for the match was Raul mierles he played exceptionally well with accurate judgement.i think Roy’s tactics is startin to be felt on them.blame the players not Roy for this loss lets all be realistic,Konchesky fell asleep nd couple of players failed to convert their chances

  10. God what a negative lot yous are, L Lover i dont know what your on but its not doing your remaining brain cells any favours !!! Torres rubbish GET A GRIP ! we are all disapointed but , lets not get like the mancs slating individuals , its a team game remember !Im farmore worried about Carras injury than todays result , as for who will be Captain in Carra and Stevies absence imo i think Kuyt has earned the right to wear the Captains armband , as he always gives 100% and is optimistic and loyal. YNWA . BTW Jamie Lazaroff why do you think its a bad day cos we got the Mancs in in the FA ?? we have never been afraid of playing them and never will be !! In fact if anything we seem to play better when we have to go and beat them !! Bring it on !!

  11. No doubt we should have won that match. Spurs didn’t impress. Watching the match in Poland I had to keep hearing the announcers say “Liverpool should be winning 4-0 at halftime.” Maxi couldn’t finish gifted chances; Torres kept holding onto the ball too long and fired off nothing. Konchesky is outclassed and doesn’t belong. Skrtel has quality but keeps making mental mistakes – he’s caught in-between all too often. Plus he’s now had *multiple* games where he’s scored a goal and then given one up. Meireles and Lucas played well, which was a positive.

True, Atkinson was passing out yellow cards like he was the dealer at a high-stakes poker tournament — but that shouldn’t even have been a factor. Roy’s tactics towards the end were small-club thinking, for sure, but our Reds should have cruised to victory long before that became an issue. They wasted too many chances.

  12. Well, the Spurs won it in the end and the two runs really deserved two goals. Know which two other runs deserved goals? The ones by Torres and Maxi at the end of the first half. As Ant so prophetically wondered on his twitter if we’re going to rue missed chances!

For a team like Liverpool doing the time we’re doing right now, we needed an away boost. Not to be! Overall, I think Spurs’ persistence just about won it for them. Gutted and can’t wait for Thursday for some happiness.
