Newcastle 3-1 Liverpool: Post Match Anger

Posted by

Following Liverpool’s morale boosting 3-0 win at home to Aston Villa on Monday, eyes turned to St James’ Park as Liverpool take on Newcastle, a side rocked by the departure of Chris Hughton. Alan Pardew walked out to take his seat in a dugout to a chorus of boos from supporters, with him facing a mammoth task of restoring the supporters’ faith in the new management.

Liverpool sought to arrest their alarming slide on their travels, and this game proved a perfect tonic to send out a message to their contenders that Liverpool are firmly intent on that Champions League spot.

However, after a scrappy opening 15 minutes, Kevin Nolan got Newcastle off to a flying start. Winning a free kick in the final third of Liverpool’s half, Barton orchestrated a move which saw Andy Carroll heading the ball across the goal mouth for Nolan to gladfully slot the ball home. TV replays showed Nolan in an offside position, but the referee probably just about gave the benefit of the doubt.

Much of the first half passed without excitement, Liverpool passed the ball well but without sufficient penetration to tear apart their opponents’ defence. Liverpool went into the break, firmly on the backfoot.

A quick start from Liverpool saw them finally back on level terms. After a defensive mix-up from Newcastle, Kuyt’s weak deflected shot thankfully slipped beyond the goal-line and into the net.

Liverpool continued piling on the pressure, but the tide turned after Nile Ranger was sent on for a limping Ameobi. Ranger was a constant thorn in the Liverpool’s defence, and later on, he and Barton combined as Barton gleefully poked home and restored Newcastle’s lead in the closing stages of the second half.

In the dying minutes of extra-time, Carroll blasted an unstoppable drive to the bottom corner as Liverpool were left reeling again. The troops were down, the manager was clueless, and all sense of direction was lost.

What now? In a game where all Liverpool fans had high expectations and confidence for, Liverpool faltered so badly. Despite having a good spell of dominance, ultimately it was Newcastle who gripped the game by the scruff of the neck and buried their chances when it mattered.

Plently of thinking for Hodgson to do. 1 away win in 9 away games is completely unacceptable for Liverpool’s standards. Either Hodgson must arrest their alarming slide on their travels, or face the wrath of a very angry NESV.

  1. Rafa won the CL with a squad with a squad that couldn’t finish in the top 4 , a squad which he inherited from houlier . Built his own squad which fi shed with z86 points ( would win the league in any other season ) all roy has to do is finish 7 to prove he is a better manager than Rafa …….and he is not on course to do that is he?……..He is a rubbish manager wouldn’t motivate a slave to seek his own freedom ……..he has to Go simple as

  2. Fernando Torres has scored ONLY ONCE in his last ELEVEN away matches and provided ONLY ONE ASSIST in his last 19 – is that Hodgson’s fault too?

  3. disgusting display from everyone in the team, my motm for us was Ngog, Roy needs to do us a favour and just walk away, take koncheski with him, how long will he get or shall I say how much damage will he be allowed to do before Mr Henry says enough is enough YNWA

  4. YNWA= ‘Y’our ‘N’ever ‘W’in ‘A’nything, especially with Mr ‘Gone past his sell-buy date’ Roy Hodgeson.

  5. am very angry this squad play more than newcastle but they lack of coach tactis make us lose.nesv need to sack roy hodgson we need a determine coach how can react fast on player not coach that fire some play and leave some in margin great chance torres have and he miss the chance to keeper a good have to remove him immediate and bring in new player and tell him the reason he remove player for him.look at sktel blunder twice atleast a good coach can use small boy like kelly or wilson and to kill ranger pressure tell that they are mate you can hold him infact roy worst henry u need to do something fast we can continue like this.henry if dont buy player u can win with this team but spend your money on good coach first, coach that know how important to win away from home, coach that can get best out of player.coach like martin oniel/frank raijkaad etc.

  6. you can say what you like, but the facts are this season your not a good team, infact from what i just seen yous are a long way from a good team,
here is a question for you, how many of my team would get into yours,
maxi looked ok, in your team, but if you look at our team i think at least 4 would starters in yours, barton, carrol , enrique, tiote,

you can say weve just been premoted, but the fact is all we done was get rid of the dead wood that was holding us down,

i am a toon fan, but have always loved liverpool as a second team,

you look like you to need a good clear out

  7. Poor, poor performance! Torres looked like he didn’t want to play………….. scrappy, scrappy, scrappy…………… bad television. Couldn’t wait for it to be over. Sort it out LFC. YNWA.

  8. Clueless, no direction, misguided and that’s just Roy Hodgson. Torres….way off the pace, looked like he couldn’t be arsed. Skrtel/Konchesky amateurish/clownish defending at best. Is there no light at the end of this very long, dark, turbid tunnel??!!
