Last week I did what most Reds did and emailed The Boston Globe (letter@globe.com) urging them to apologise and to fire Alex Beam. So far I have only received an auto reply from them and at this rate I will probably not hear from them. Unlike the case with The S*n which a 21 year old boycott has left the newspaper with the inability to sell papers in Merseyside, a boycott of the Boston Globe will hardly put a dent in their readership due to the fact that we only have around 1,000 of our supporters in the Boston area.
I do however encourage all Boston Reds (most already are) to boycott the rag (Boston Globe), it is more as a statement then anything. Talk to your friends and colleagues in Boston and tell them what this rag is all about.
Here is my letter.
Dear Editor:
As a Liverpool FC fan living in Florida I urge you to apologize to the families of the Hillborough disaster over Mr. Alex Beam’s comments.
Your newspaper made a correction admitting that Mr. Beam did not write the truth however you should be “Man” about it and apologize. These poor people have suffered too much over the last 21 years. Not only have they lost loved ones in a tragedy but they have to keep dealing with Newspapers slurring the deaths.
Mr. Beam obviously has a bone to pick with John W Henry however dragging these people through the mud is inexcusable. If your organization is a respectable or reputable one then you would terminate his employment and not be associated with this hate-monger.
By delaying your apology and the termination of Mr. Alex Beam’s employment your organization is sinking to the lowest form of journalism usually reserved for publications owned by Rupert Murdoch.
