Taking the mickey out of Liverpool should stop!

Posted by

I’ve lately become bored to the bone reading articles, comments and worse still watching video clips with the intent of pouring ridicule on Liverpool’s manager and players. I felt I had to post another brief column as an addendum to my previous article as the situation is now reaching epic proportions, and, it must be said that this site has been lately pictured, by some quarters, as fuelling such revolting attacks. This is certainly unwelcome news. I was once an editor of a fan site (The Mighty Reds) back in the days when NewsNow was in its infancy and I can assure you that maintaining such a site was a daily headache. EOTK is a brilliant idea and one can only commend Antoine for bridging the communication gap between the Liverpool FC fan community. This an opportunity for all to post thoughts and feelings about games, tactics, performances. It is not, however, a place for those armed with venom in their fangs, those who spread gloom, those who willingly never see the big picture.

We all have a right to voice opinions and certainly we can constructively criticize a club which has been in perilous waters ever since the cancerous previous ownership was allowed entry into the delicate quarters of Anfield. We’re all unhappy about Liverpool’s inconsistency – an issue which has plagued the club ever since that last league trophy was lifted – and we may all agree that Roy Hodgson has shown little to prove that he is here for the long term. It is then childish and useless continuously asking for Hodgson to be relieved of his duties. This is a decision which can only be taken by those who expertly pulled us out of the tyranny status which was the previous ownership. We, fans are just one member in a three-piece structure including manager and players all glued together by those who sign the cheques, who ensure the club is a profitable business and who have foresight to take the club to better shores.

I liken Liverpool’s situation to Juventus who similarly were left stranded at the end of last season after a terrible campaign. In came Delneri early in the Summer and immediately sought to stabilize a ship a few years back rocked by corruption claims. A macro comparison of Juventus and Liverpool will result in many concluding that Delneri would have probably done a better job at LFC given that Juventus are currently enjoying the best of forms in recent history. Delneri is not exactly what I would term as top class if one had to review his CV – he was manager of a host of clubs and that includes AS Roma which he parted company with after a few months following a series of defeats. Not Juventus material some fans would have suggested. What Del Neri inherited was little in comparison to what lay in store for Roy in the Summer. The situation at the top for Juventus was never an issue and all Delneri – and Juve’s players – had to do was concentrate on football matters. A different scenario at Liverpool when Roy was appointed manager. He had to liaise with an ailing ownership, make amends for the damaging loss of Javier Mascherano, convince the big names to give Liverpool another chance and secure the signature of a few players with limited funds. This, naturally delays any attempt at stabilisation. I was and still am bitter at Roy’s sincere approach during interviews; I’ve always thought that managers should be emotionless infront of the camera, towards rival managers. This is one reason why Rafa Benitez is so much loved as he really proved to be a spoke in the wheel of Ferguson and other tough characters. Such positive arrogance transcends to the players, an emphatic example being the days when Liverpool enjoyed successive convincing victories against Man. Utd and Real Madrid. Rafa Benitez’s only fault was to succumb to the media’s game by throwing in the now famous Rafa rant which, although, understandable and spot on, resulted in a cloud of negativity eclipsing all the good the Spaniard had done previously.

It is easy for anyone to criticize how managers relate with the media and this includes gesticulation during matches. The truth is that a manager’s football charisma is a fine line between being seen as a steady no-nonsense motivator or a little child crying his heart out at being dragged by his mother to his first day at school. Rafa managed the former at one point and results followed suit but crossed over to the other side after the famous rant and when “promising” Liverpool would have secured a Champions League placing. Roy doesn’t quite fit in this formula yet and his managerial traits reflect his personality, one which depicts him as a well versed, sincere and apologizing type which is not your typical Liverpool manager. Roy’s politeness and apparent respect of other managers, most notably Alex Ferguson has trickled down to the playing staff and this naturally will always prove counter productive.

We know Roy has faults but we also recognize that given the circumstances at the time, he was the best possible candidate for a job not many would have been interested in. Faults can be rectified and storms subside. The message to fellow fans is simple – we need to support the club through thick and thin, condemn those who think Liverpool can be thought of as joke and strive to use the power of the Internet to oust – not Liverpool’s manager – but the bad odour left behind by those who never had Liverpool at heart, those who assumed Liverpool was all about money, those who tarnished the rich history of this football club.

See you next time.

  1. Great article Karl, totally agree with everything you wrote. From the national press to Sky’s football ‘experts’ they all seem to have taken great enjoyment in watching the team and the club’s problems of the last few years. For a lot of fans,Hodgson will never be accepted and thats fine-he wouldn’t have been my first choice either, but he’ll always have my respect for taking on a job that apart from Kenny-nobody wanted.

  2. Karl V-Grant……If you seriously think that, Rubroy needs supporting than, YOU yourself is the problem for not recognising CR*P when you see it. Hodgson is a FAKE and an IMPOSTER (Stong words but TRUE!), he should NEVER been appointed, in the first place, his experiance of managing SMALL teams ( and winning FA ), is related to the shi**y football that, Liverpool are being made to pley at present. The will NOT get anywhere, while this CLOWN is around!!!. So STOP SUPPORTING SH*T.

    1. The club needs supporting, and anyone connected to the club needs to be supported at all times. It is then up to hierarchy to determine if and when anyone should be deemed unsuitable to wear the Liverpool shirt.

Lastly, please tone down your comments.

  3. NOBODY wanted to manage one of the biggest clubs in world football ?? Who was approached ?? I can forgive Hodgson much and appreciate the difficulty of the situation But his reams are boring his signings abject and his rapport with the fans none existent

  4. great article…so refreshing!! after reading every fucking so called “fans” article calling for managers’ head…I almost thought EOTK dedicated itself to do the same thing as they did with the previous owners, which would have been a disgrace :( . Keep up the good work!! YNWA

  5. We Pay the money Karl…..TRUE FANS….that go and watch EVERY game, so we have every right to recognise SH*T when we see it!. Rubroy will bring us down, to his mediocre level, that I have no doubt!!!.

    1. Does this imply that TRUE FANS are the odd 45,000 that can watch the team inside Anfield? Has this club come to this now?

  6. I do believe that Roy was a good choice at the time. But since then his appointment has not worked out, and in fact failed catastrophically. It’s very clear, even at this early stage, that he does not have the character or capability to lead Liverpool to any sort of progress.

As fans, we support the club. That doesn’t necessarily mean we’d support everyone associated with the club by default – we only support those that are good for the club. Simple example, if we know that H&G are bad for the club, they need to go. And with Hodgson, if we know that he’s bad for the club too, there’s no duty to support him just because. By all means, he should go too.

I’m sure he’s trying his best. All due respect to the situation he has to face at LFC. He was a man tasked with a challenging job, but he’s failed at it – and failed miserably. Good effort, but no cigar. He’s just not up to the task and he’s taking the club backwards.

  7. Thanks for your article Karl.

It seems like we are discussing the disease versus the symptoms. The criticism and venom are a clear symptom of fatigue: we’ve been in limbo for too long. We are spinning our wheels and hoping for more decisive action and proof of change. Are we all shortsighted to some degree? My personal guess is yes but this kind of limbo can be damaging in the long term and the people who sign the checks have to be aware of that as well. The idea that fans of any club with defer to a “hierarchy” doesn’t sound right to me–I want people to analyze and question as much as I hope they try to look to the long term and be a bit more patient. I wish people were more articulate in the ways they go about this but then I remember this is football and not signing hymns in church. Like it or not, unfortunately.

As far as Roy is concerned, he does himself no favors in his words or actions. He’s become an easy target, as if being the manager didn’t make him enough of a target to begin with. And I’m neither a Roy hater or a Roy lover; I look at his work with a very rational demand–show me. Show me what you’re made of, show me I should think you’re the right person for the job. He hasn’t. That doesn’t mean it can’t change and that doesn’t mean I “blame” just Roy. There are at least 11 others to consider. At least.

Perhaps January and the second half of the season will prove better but I am prepared for this season to be transitional. Liverpool still have a lot of tacks to make before this ship is straight and it might take more than the transfer window to right it.

    1. Coherent, well balanced thoughts evidently penned from the heart. More of the Melissa-type required @ EOTK.

  8. Sorry Karl but I have to disagree with you. We as supporters have a very strong voice, do not under estimate the power we had in bringing down the two clowns! We pressurized banks both here and abroad into not supporting these two clowns, but alas they have left us with a legacy….the aptly named uncle Woy!
My abject feelings have not hit this low since Souness tarnished his name by managing us! Not all great players make great managers, but that’s a different story for a different time.
We had a manager who was doing a great job for us, who was building a legacy. He was not supported and even undermined in the latter stages. We were sold a bill of goods about our key players being unhappy if Rafa stayed……this now seems total rubbish. Lets not forget that this team is the same one as last year barring Mascherano of course. Last year we had too many injuries, this year we don’t. And barring the aforementioned Argentinian, Alonso and Arbeloa are the other members of the team that should have won the league two years ago, if it wasn’t for a great finish by the Mancs!
Anyway, I for one cannot support this man as he has proven he is only a mid-table team manager. We have now scored, conceeded and have the same amount of points as Fulham had last year! Clearly not good enough! We are playing too deep and Torres looks like a disjointed, one legged blind fool, this can clearly only be Roy’s fault…….So what I say to you Karl is this, yes your entitled to your opinion but do not be condescending as the previous two clowns we had and assume we do not know what is good for our club!

    1. I’m sorry but comparing the previous cancerous ownership to Roy is mixing oranges and apples. The owners inject cash and act as a bond between the pillars of a football club. The influence they have is far greater in today’s football World than any manager can possibly dream of. They dictate the rules. NESV are currently gauging Roy – when this exercise is complete, we will know whether Roy has a long-term future.

  9. Well said 100%,,,Red2death and, KARL, I call myself a TRUE FAN because I go to watch Liverpool WHEREVER they play, if at all possible.

  10. Whether you want him or not, he’s still the Liverpool manager so it’s better to get behind him and support him than call for his head and insult him. Someof the commentors on this article are embarassing to say the least. The owners have given him their backing so he’s here until at lrast the end of the season so the best thing for our club is to support the team incliding the manager. Sometimes I feel that all the fans of LFC have bately hit puberty.

  11. A good article. Well done.

I think Hodgson was the right man for the job at the time, and as has been said, I don’t think many would have taken the job given the owners and the financial constraints. We needed a steady hand to try and at least have a steady and calm team during the chaos of the ownership issues. I don’t know what people expected with a new manager, challenging for the title, (dream on) but we were bad last year and changing that with little money isn’t going to be a quick fix. He needs to be given time to try and make his mark imho. People seem to be against him for his friendship with Ferguson, being media friendly and for being realistic in his comments. Getting into knee jerk reactions from fans opinions about managers sets us on a road like Newcastle and Leeds to name but two.

He is slowly doing a job and should be allowed to continue. Any new manager will have the same under achieving team that Hodgson and Benitez had, and the same financial lack of muscle that Hodgson will have, plus a different idea as to the type of players to keep and buy, possibly undoing what Hodgson has already done.

All those wanting a change of manager, who do you think should replace him? Because I don’t see any outstanding candidates. We’ve missed the boat as far as owners coming in a splashing the cash, because of the financial regulations that are to come in football. I think that is a good thing because we won’t be saddled with too much debt, but it means that managers will have to be man managers and build a team rather than throwing too much money at problems. No one can say that Hodgson can’t build a team that play be yond the ability of the players. The Swiss and Fulham teams are but two that show that. And that is what we need, the squad to play like a team and work for each other.

Sorry for the long post, but the doom and gloom and lack of support for the Liverpool manager, (something we are known for) is getting on my nerves.

  12. we don’t support SH*T, and not doing so does not make us a lesser fan. we’ve been forgiving and thus then title drought.

  13. Karl, the exercise was concluded, BEFORE Hodgson was appointed. Fans(90-95%) did not want him, as his managerial record (35 years)of winning no major trophy’s, says it all and, as for Liam, if as you say, YOU have ‘bately hit puberty’ than, I am sure that, your positive opinion of Rubroy woild change!.

    1. @ YNWalkA: You seem to forget that Hodgson was put in place at a time when the club was in total disarray, the ownership issue taking on more importance. Liverpool couldn’t fight on two fronts – trying to get rid of HG and at the same time find a top class manager – if and this is a huge if such a manager was indeed available. Hodgson may be viewed as a caretaker until NESV determine how best to move forward and more importantly with who. You need to get this drummed into your head once and for all.

Another point is, realistically who is there to take over matters at L’pool?

1st tier of managers: Mourinho, Fergson, Benitez and Hiddink => none available
2nd tier would include the likes of Wenger, Ancellotti.
      The rest.

Suggest someone and please not Rijkaard with all due respect to our Dutch followers.

  14. Good refreshing article!

I wish Roy to do well at LFC!! How could I not?..if he’s doing well, the team are doing well etc etc!
It’s not about having blind faith in the manager, it is about having hope for the future and it’s about giving the guy some time!!
Last season was a bit of a shocker, to say the least, everything was going the way of the pear, and, ok, Roy may not have been my first choice but I’m pretty sure he knew what he was getting himself into and what the situation was at Anfield.
We were still levering the Parasites out, players wanted to go, we had no transfer budget.
Buying Poulsen and Konchesky?…, Poulsen has done the rounds and where do you get a PL experienced LB for that sort of money?…that said, both need to do better,..but I do understand both purchases.
Joe Cole?..no-one complained when he came in, I am sure he will shine , Raul is looking the real deal, and Lucas looks like a new player.
It was, of course, Lucas who was getting all the abuse last year!..it seems these days, the Fans have to have their “hate figure”.
With the risk of sounding elitist, I believe that LFC fans, are some of the best in the World, and the players on the park feel this too,…when the fans sing their hearts out for the team, there is some sweet alchemy on play that makes LFC irresistible.
We are in real danger of losing that bond.
Some fans think there will be a quick fix in January, we will buy 2 or 3 players and all will be good again,..I think we need to be more realistic than that.
The last owners did untold damage to the spirit and reputation of the club, and these things do not mend overnight.
At present, Roy is not just trying to steady the ship, he’s having to fight fires started by the fans.
One thing that has really surprised me on the blogs, was the lack of congratulations for both manager and team in getting through to the next round of UEFA..everyone was so bent on calling for Roy’s head on a plate, that it seemed to be completely overlooked!
Anyway!..we will see what it’s all about at the end of the season!
As long is Roy is in charge, I will hope that he does his job well, and brings the team forward and that we get a fat sack of points over Yuletide!!

    Happy Christmas Y’all!!!

  15. A very good read and full of interesting thoughts and analysis. still, we have to live with Roy and his idiotic mannerisms and diabolical management. My fear is that he is dragging us down so low we will struggle to get back. I’d rather see another interim, with more of the Liverpool way at heart than simply to stay silent and wait for deliverance in some distant future, maybe Phil Thompson. I can’t stomach watching my beloved club any more and its all down to Roy now even if it started with the two Yanks and the weasel called Purslow!!!

  16. karl v-grant we suport are team just not the manager. If you have been to the games recently you would understand from the silence around Anfield. comments roy makes about the teams performance being the best he has seen and laughing to moyes at the end of the derby is not a manager to have confidence in. he sits in his chair rubbing his face hoping sammi lee can come up with some ideas for him. if he was a manager shouting at the players and showing a bit of willing and not making daft comments the fans would mabe back him. but he has done nothing in the slightest. the list of his faults are getting bigger and bigger. i think he has been let off this weekend with the snow and i actually worry who he is going to bring in in January.

  17. roy was never the man for the job,he has done nothing for liverpool except turn us in to a big joke,i will always support liverpool but can never back roy hodgson,he plays crap football and has bought crap players that should never be wearing the red shirt
it looks like another wasted seoson for liverpool, its come to a point wear i cant bear to watch the mind dulling football liverpool/hodgson play, its more fun watching paimt dry

  18. Worse than Souness, point made, nah nobody is worse than him obviously :P but IMO Hodgson is just a mid table manager, however i will back him whilst hes at the club although im not his biggest fan.

  19. If there was to be a change who would we get in? Whoever it was would have to work with a director of football,a Dalglish/Carra partnership might be an option.I’m convinced Carra will be Liverpool manager at some point,I also think Gerrard will be involved in a coaching capacity in the near future. The two of them live and breathe LFC.

  20. Karl, we the fans have suffered enough, with H&G, now we are asked to do the same, with Hodgson?.You said that we had to fight on two fronts, trying to find a top class manager, can’t you see that, you mentioned BENITEZ in your 1st tier?. We already had Rafa, did we not?, yet we replace him with a mid-table manager. I myself at times critised Rafa and, his substitutions, yet after one bad season (7th), we replace him with Hodgson (12th Fulham). This is NOT logical at all, is it?.

  21. I thought your article was fair but I think you are missing the point.I dont know one Liverpool fan who would wish anything but success for Roy as that would mean success for the club. Some of the vitriol I have read on fans forums has made me quite ashamed. Having said that I think we can’t blind ourselves to how overwhelmed Roy seems. He looks lost on the touchline, and lacking in confidence when changes clearly need to be made. This man is out of his depth and I have the feeling he is merely waiting to be relieved of his position and therefore get his compensation package…..cynical I know but I dont quite buy the Mr nice guy thing.
Anyway as mere paying customers all we can do is support the team and hope there is some way out of the huge hole this wonderful club finds itself in. YNWA

  22. give me a 20th of the money roy is on and you can call me what you like, i get abuse for nothing. anyone who thinks roy hodgson is hard done by is off his little trolley. if you spent almost 10 million on two useless items in any other job your feet would not touch the ground on the way out, oh and with minimum redundancy money. he is killing the crowd (our main asset)or havnt you noticed. it was a blessing the game was called off as the crowd arnt up to it, his negativity is cathiching.

  23. “where do you get a PL experienced LB for that sort of money”

There was nothing wrong with Insua, don’t tell me Koncheskey is better………….

“Lucas looks like a new player”

Sorry I think he was probably our most consistent player in Rafa’s last season. Nothing to do with Woy.

  24. Karl, if you are still not convinced that, Hodgson is NOT and NEVER will be, the right man to manage Liverpool, after all the anti-Hodgson comments here, than maybe nothing will.

    1. @ YNWalkA: I think there’s a fair share of fans who do not agree with your slandering antics. I encourage more of these fans to come forward and show their disapproval..

The article was meant to help screw the lid on unnecessary abuse. We’ve become a mockery because of this. I shall not subscribe to this behaviour. We want to get back to the Liverpool way – sort out our deficiencies in private.

  25. Karl, an article from the other side is needed. However, I’m afraid it’s wrong.

Hodgson was hired during the H and G era. He was recommended by Purslow, another cheat. At the end of the day, we let our xenophobia get in the way and, rather than appoint someone who could stabilize the club, we brought in someone who would actually lower expectations and make the ship sink. So yes, even though we have rid ourselves of H and G, we still have a mediocre manager completely out of his depth who tries to play central midfielders as wingers because he can’t change his tactics out of the 442. I honestly have tried to be positive since day 1, but when you start losing to the likes of Blackpool, Newcastle, and Stoke on a consistent basis, there is obviously something wrong.

What of Hodgson’s gaffes in the media? He ridiculously said that he lacks funds to have quality players, yet he has the 2nd most expensive squad in the EPL, and Blackpool, with a team that costs 1/10 as much, has more away wins than us.

Hodgson simply lacks the desire and passion we expect in our managers. He couldn’t give two cents less about the passionate supporters (he publicly denounced us), the history of LFC, or his away record. He is here simply for the money and personal glory.

  26. It was a most invigorating read Karl. I or at least we try hard every day to make sense of first the diabolical shame the last owners cost to the integrity of our gRED club. We tried to make sense of inexcusable performances last season that left us short of reaching the CL money boat. We tried to make sense with the lost of both Xabi and Masch. If they had stayed on we would definitely have been a a side to strike fear anywhere. Then I can honestly say that buying one or two great players would have strengthened the club. I tried to make sense to seeing Insua and Aqualani go on loan and hear immediately that we were short of cover. SO we went out to buy Paul and Poulsen. Losing 2 of the best young players for? We brought in Roy to balance the ship for this season. Seriously. Man for man what was there to change? We hoped that stability meant getting the fire burning again. Making them play like we knew they could… but yes! yet again we were told that we needed to be patient. If we were looking for that why not stick with Rafa. A better and cheaper option. He had extended his contract and one season doesn’t make a bad manager. It would have been interesting to find out what our season would have been with Rafa and the new management. So we paid him and now are paying Roy, with lack of success, for a better tomorrow. We have young players who have won titles but we try to understand why we don’t play them. We try to understand many things, changes over and over again. Some are able to write brilliant explanations some write out of pure pain. Some try to make sense some can’t take it anymore. But we all want Liverpool to be the great successful team it should be. As much as you can say that this is not the Liverpool way, I will put the shoe on the other foot and say that this part of the Liverpool way got us in this depressing scenario in the first place. Why? We should have gotten rid of Souness before the darkness crept in. But we’re Liverpool and we support the team, management and players always. But I also believe one has to prove his validity for being on this gRED team. and this has not been proven by many except by the fans who even in their polite support or angry and frustrated support have stayed true to their love for being a RED. We are all fans we just have different forms of expressing ourselves Karl.

  27. Finally! A decent article on EOTK – I must be dreaming. I don’t agree with everything the author writes but differences of opinion are a fact of life and one must also learn to respect those differences – and it also sparks good debate, as can be seen from the majority of the comments.

But oh how good it is to see something different from the abject mockery and piss-taking that this site is fast becoming. I’m all for criticism but as the author points out, it should at least be constructive.

Well done Karl, keep up the good work and look forward to reading more of your work in the future. Finding them though will be like separating the wheat from the chaff.

  28. Great article Melissa nail on the head stuff!!! The analogy disease vs symptoms is a good one & I’d like to tweak it & put my twist on it. DISEASE = Something is ravaging the body that is ( the LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB ) Gillett & Hicks who are the butcher surgeons have prescribed a dose of Rafa (ANTIBIOTICS) Benitez for their ailment. They tell LFC that they’ve found a tumor & that going private & paying through the nose is the way to go. LFC tell G & H that they want a 2nd opinion & NESV are brought in & conclude that it is indeed Cancer & G & H are negligent & report them to the (RBS) Health board they appeal but their pleas fall on deaf ears & they’re immediately struck off. THE CURE = NESV are asked to take over & realize that the patient has already had 6 months of Roy ( CHEMOTHERAPHY ) Hogson & tells LFC that they must give the CHEMO time to work but LFC wants a miracle cure & wants it now!!! NESV assures LFC that if they can identify & cut out the cancerous tumors (OR DEADWOOD) they maybe able to stop the spread but the bad news is they need a 2nd dose of CHEMO and time before they can assure them that they’re in remission. SYMPTOMS = Nobody likes the effects of CHEMO, nobody likes to wait & nobody likes to be told there’s no miracle cure. I’m sorry to say this but we are in remission (a CLUB IN TRANSITION ) & I believe the 2nd round of CHEMO is only weeks away let us hope they get all the tumors. TO KARL laughter is the best medicine and this article is all about taking the Mickey & giving fans & supporters a different angle to look and judge for themselves how things really sit. TO REDICE = NESV didn’t sack Rafa, Rafa sacked himself, he did it @ Valencia he did it here & in 48 hours he’ll repeat the dose at INTER challenging owners to sack him or back him when he gets himself in trouble is just suicide!!!

  29. Karl, Can’t agree with your point ..”he was the best possible candidate for a job not many would have been interested in.”

We don’t need “many”..we needed one ..If you say Roy was the most available of all British Managers..then maybe you have a point..but there were “some” who were out of job and could have done or were expected to do better..Lets throw the name of Manuel Pellegrini to begin with..!!

    1. I used Delneri’s example to highlight that success need not follow the hiring of a top class manager. On the other hand Juventus were never guaranteed success with Delneri. We could have hired Pellegrini, sure, but then again, success is never rubber stamped unlike contracts. A list of candidates was drawn, Hodgson was chosen, he is here and he, the players and the club require support and constructive criticism. The time for post mortems will be when and if NESV think that Hodgson is not fit to manage the club.

  30. I always said..Roy was never the right option..but a lion’s share for the dismal showing also lies with the players!!

  31. Using cancer to describe Liverpool’s trouble’s is in itself sick, for god sake this is a football team that at the moment is in decline because the team are crap and so is the manager, there is no disease no one is dying just a team that need’s to reinvent itself.

  32. the crowd need a lift with positive action, the players need a lift with positive action, a new player or two wont do it, a new manager with a winning ambition and mentality will. hiddink, o’neill, dagliesh.

  33. Sad, just how many demented people call themselves fans of Liverpool fc. They should save us all the pain and join MU.

  34. TO pbb my article is, as it states, an ANALOGY that cuts close to the bone, you say it’s a football team in decline my ANALOGY is it’s a team in remission( WE ARE A TEAM OUT OF THE RELEGATION ZONE NEITHER GOING UP NOR DOWN HENCE IN REMISSION ) the team is crap my ANALOGY is to identify who the crap players are & remove them like tumors, & so is the manager my ANALOGY is nobody likes the cure (IN OTHER WORDS NOBODY WHO HAS HAD CANCER LIKES CHEMO ) you say there is no disease yet we all write in voicing our displeasure WHY?, you go on to end with no one is dying just a team that needs to reinvent itself ( YOU’RE RIGHT, WE ARE NOT DYING WE’RE LIVERPOOL & WE DON’T NEED TO REINVENT OURSELVES!!! ) My article asks supporters & fans alike to take a different view basically look at everything from a different angle like I have. I’m sorry if it comes across as vulgar & insensitive but the similarities are that the truth hurts & I’m sorry if the radiation has killed your funny-bone but the ANALOGY is we are in the hands of the best surgeons available ( NESV ) & unlike the cure they have a PLAN B but are holding off to allow time to at least heal some wounds NOT ALL BUT SOME!!! TO KARL V GRANT Now that’s putting the MICKEY BACK INTO LIVERPOOL.

  35. it seems benitez has just been sacked for doing a tenth as bad as hodgson, i dont feel sorry for him, and i certainly would not feel sorry to see hodgson go, in fact a great celebration would ensue.

  36. karl, the liverpool way ? – dont defend your players (torres man u)slag them in public, (joe cole etc)put down fans for protesting, ask to be judged then move the goalposts twice, judge me ater 35 games and then judge me after my new signings, play a defensive formation in a nothing game against nothing opponants yer thats the liverpool way alright and ive only scratched the surface with this negative crowd silencing manager (for want of a better word).

  37. stan h couldnt of said it any better exactly what the majority of us think. karl v-grant get to a game and see for your self. hodsgons mates in the media only show you the good bits on match of the day. The away fans make more noise than us now because hodsgons negativity is rubbing around anfield. bring back Reclaim The Kop campaign. ynwa

  38. i see mr negativity is at it again, it might take years – well it will never happen with him. i was trying to think of the last time the oposition had as bad a left back as us ? i’m sure it was the last time we played fulham.

    1. We agree that Hodgson was put into place to tow the party line during the ownership crisis and the intent wasn’t for him to be here for the long term. NESV will only fire Hodgson if we embark on a catastrophic run of successive defeats which would put us in relegation zone. As long as Liverpool are there and there-abouts in terms of Europa League/CL qualification (more of the latter) he is staying. NESV need time to understand how things work in football. Useless picking on Roy, that’s the whole point. Roy never forced his way into the club – he was selected during the ownership crisis and NESV and players have so far backed him.

I for one would want to see Rafa back – the man has unfinished work at Anfield and although Italian media have fuelled rumours by stating that he has signed up his daughter at a school on Merseyside, I still see this this as wishful thinking. My only worry at not making the CL places this season is the likes of Torres and Reina moving on…Then again, I’m sure the club is big enough to survive such a scenario.

  39. Would you support a cause if you had no hope? Karl its all about hope.. its about looking at tomorrow and being hopeful that things will change, that tomorrow will be better than today. If people cannot see that then no rationalization of the current situation will suffice. The way i look at it, what Liverpool needs today is everyone- owners, manager, coaches, players, and fans- moving in the same direction. That will bring back the belief that H&G took away from us. And that is what Roy has not been able to provide (and if he did not consider inspirational leadership as a core requirement when he took over then it means he never did his homework before accepting the position). At critical moments of an organization, institution it is not a technocratic approach that is the solution, it is inspired leadership that brings a collective dream that is the answer. That is what Roy has failed to provide (hence every small detail of his press conferences is analyzed negatively). Patience has its limits in the face of hopelessness. If he cannot inspire, he will not lead and his calls for patience will remain hollow…

  40. Karl’s comments make for the most sensible I have read on the current situation at the club. If we continue to tear the club apart this includes players, manager and supporters, we will be picking up the pieces.

Please let us unite and support the club, players and the manager
