The Masses have spoken, please listen

When the inevitable happens, if it hasn’t already by the time your depressed little eyeballs glance across my dread filled ramblings (midnight Tweetings suggest so), we are left fretting on the appointment of our next leader. A patient bunch by nature, we have been portrayed as a baying mob in the papers, spurred on by the recent success in rallying together to drive out the previous Yankee filth occupiers who wont here be named.

We have always offered our full support to our manager, which has always made me proud. In the case of our last boss this was particularly important as it was clear to anyone who cared that Rafa was our finest manager of the last 20 years. Nothing controversial or original there I’m sure you’d agree. Given that the all our problems can be rooted back to the removed two, why are we being told that it would be a wrong move to reappoint Rafa. I accept that he would have extreme difficulty working with Damien Comolli and herein lies my main concern. How many top coaches would be happy to work with Damien Comolli?

I will add here that this is no attempt to slam the Director of Football Strategy nor any other figure at the club, but these positions so often have an unsettling effect . Quite often the first move of a takeover, one must assume on advice, this role is drawn up and filled, but often ends up in separation. A technical director with power that supersedes the manager’s own in the transfer market? Not many great coaches enjoy working this way, and if he is to be all powerful then we must hope he displays more patience and less interference than he demonstrated in his overrated stay at Spurs. He oversaw the removal of Martin Jol and installation the accomplished Juande Ramos who was portrayed as hopeless whilst Comolli enjoyed the plaudits until Redknapp came in, fired him and ran the club properly.

Its true Harry benefited from some of the talent left behind by Comolli and in his job as scout for Arsenal he can claim some success, so why then not simply be a scout? With Eduardo Macia leaving the role is open. But a Football Director also has the definitive say on who the next boss will be. So why should one person, with law qualification have the authoritative say on who our next boss should be, whilst the masses scream in the corner for the return of one of two former bosses. Comolli has been Installed here for two months, whilst you and I have a lifetime of support and obsessing about this very club and its individuals.

We fund it and should be taken seriously. We are more than qualified yet find our opinions arrogantly swept aside and scorned by the media, so often wrong themselves, yet act as though we are to cretinous to understand what is good for us. The media dumb it down so the little football fan on the street, who subscribes to their channels and buys their papers, can understand what is required by those who truly know the game which we cannot access. Ex-players (of other lesser teams), pundits and the journalists, most of whom have little experience of the professional game from within.

Yet I read, at the weekend that we have been encouraged, as militant fans by recent mob group victories. So what if we have, shouldn’t more fans? I also read that Liverpool fans should stop looking to the past, but again why? Who out there, right now would be better for us than the two individuals we all want.

The media’s blame Rafa attitude suggests he is responsible for the mess we are in and would mark him down as a failed manager, disbelieving why we love him so much. But this season I believe that good players are playing well below their capabilities not shite mediocre players playing at their limit. The most out of depth creatures at the club remain, Konchesky and Poulsen, not the remains of the Rafa side which after all was our best side for the last 20 years, all that’s really missing there, is Xabi and Masch, but Masch was still there in August. So this again is unfair on Rafa and were he still to have been in charge this season I honestly believe that this side, with Aquilani another year in the country and (Alberto’s starting win percentage last year?) that with everyone else in the league stumbling around like Rooney in a whorehouse, we could have won the title with this side. The point is if we were at least given considered input into appointments then the club might be in a better position right now than it is. But I read, with no admitted authority, that the club fancy a new appointment, from out of left-field, and this I think is a shame because we the paying public know what we want and very seldom get it.

  1. Commoli is a football man having played the game so hasn’t just got a law degree and when we get a new manager surely the final say on who we buy lies with him if he’s not strong enough to stand up to commoli if he feels he’s being pressured then do we really want him we need a strong character not a puppet all commoli is, is a glorified scout but he’s quite good at it first things first lets get confirmation that Hodgsons gone then find the new man and deal with any problems after that i like Commoli and think he’s got a part to play in the revitalisation of the mighty Liverpool Football Club

  2. Over the past 18 months I have read some nonsense regarding our club but this is perhaps the straw that breaks the camels back. It was clear to every Liverpool supporter than Hodgson was going to be out of his depth, he was never going to be a world beater….but…..we lived in the hope that he would, at least, bring some semblance of normality back to our beloved club. Obviously this has not happened and we are in a dire situation on the field. Off the field I think we are begining to look like the real deal, our Academy is starting to produce players with promise, financially we are on sound ground, our new owners appear to realise that success in football takes time and with a bit of perseverance a solution will be found regarding the situation with Anfield. My concern however is with our next manager, this will perhaps be the most important appointment in 51 years. We need new blood, someone young and forward thinking with an attacking approach to football, something sadly missing in our last two managers. I will never forget what Rafa did for our club, how he stood up and fought for our cause but he is not the choice for the future, he is a divisive figure, the first run of bad results and we will be back to last year. Many names have been banded round and we will never know the right choice until we win our first PREMIER LEAGUE but I think it important that we look forward and not back. For that reason I ask that we forget Rafa and King Kenny and look to an other R, namely Ralph Rangnick. I doubt this will get much response or backing but I really do believe that we need a change in direction, this is a pivital time in the history of our club and for ALL our collective sanity I hope we get the decision right….YNWA

  3. Have to say whilst i certainly appreciate the sentiment you’re making I disagree with the idea that the fans should be listened to wholeheartedly. For starters if you ask ten different fans you’d get 10 different answers. For every fan who wants Dalglish in there’s one who wants Deschamps. In reply to Deschamps someone else calls for Rijkard.

But above everything else not all fans do want Rafa back. I for one think that would be a terrible mistake. I can’t argue against what he did for the club and he’ll be forever loved for 2005. But towards the end he was taking us backwards, not forwards. We’d have won the league in 2009 if Rafa had been braver, more attacking. And last season we can’t forget we played some terrible football.

Rafa brought the good times back and we should love him for it. But he left at the right time and now he should stay away. It’s time to move forward and, as far as Rafa’s concerned at least, there’s no point looking back.

  4. I have to disagree although I appreciate your argument. I would be all for Kenny coming back on a part time basis or maybe even full time if successful, but bringing Rafa back could not and would not work. Do we all forgot how his cold approach to players alienated many? Come the end of his reign it seemed his relationship with our two longest servants was non existent. He tried to off load xabi when all he needed was a kick up the ares after a sluggish 10-12 months. His falling out with Inter players in another example of poor player management and I wonder if he cant blame they who shall not be named who will he blame? Its Kenny or a fresh face in my book.

  5. Great letter. I’m at a loss words on the season and our current situation. But I will hope and believe until the day I leave here. Please keep writing and supporting LFC.

  6. I’m sure the new owners, who are also American, don’t read this post. Why? Because “Yankee filth” (even in describing Hicks and Gillett) is as insulting to them as calling me a Paddy just coz I’m Irish. Also Rafa isn’t wanted back. He won the Champions League (with Houlliers team), changed the whole team and spent over 100 million and got us to 2nd in the league and another champions league final in 6 years. Not good enough for Liverpool fans who want real success and we deserve it for the money he spent and the changes be made.

  7. sack the stupid roy or we will get relegated….plzz henry??y dont u understand..roy is a f***king thing ..sack now or drown on ur investment…simple….

  8. jhon henry plzzzzzzzzzz i beg u plzzz sack roy now..every one lets sign a petitition demanding roy,s head..plzzz

  9. Afraid we must lose another Manager…this time the appointment MUST be right…if there is not a stand out candidate we must appoint Kenny , at least un til the end of the Season.

No offence to the Rafa fans…but he played a huge part in weakening this squad in quality terms….but Roy cannot seem to motivate the team at all.

Sorry…but Roy MUST go….and we MUST get the right man in place

  10. every body lets just have one word on our tongue “sack roy”..plzz for ur beloved liverpoolfc
if jhon henry ur sincere to our club then sack roy now,,,,plzzzzzzzz

  11. Boxgrafik – you are too fucking thick to be a Liverpool Supporter – fuck off to Chelsea – you know absolutely ZERO about football or Rafa’s time in charge.

It is traitorous mother fucking cunts like you that landed us with Hodgson in the first place.

You are a total and utter wanker – FUCK OFF CUNT FACE! I AND ALL INTELLIGENT LIVERPOOL FANS FUCKING HATE THE LIKES OF YOU BEYOND MEASURE. YOU ARE A WORTHLESS CUNT!

  12. yea…ur rite farhan….sack roy now,, sack roy now if ur sincere jhon henry to our beloved liverpoolfc…we demand his head……roy should be axed now…before its of no use..

  13. Rafa’s last season under the ownership of H&G SHOULD BE DISCOUNTED. Rafa gave us joy, happiness and hope. Rafa should be given a second chance. BRING RAFA BACK!! at least until end of season.

  14. Roy has to go, but if we go back to Kenny or Rafa we are turning into Newcastle and their constant harking back to the ‘good old times’. We need to move on and go for a ‘top’ manager who has a record of success. We also need to be careful we dont destroy a tradition that has been built up over many years, one where we as supporters back our manager( no matter who he is), and have patience. We could so easily become Newcastle. I dread the thought!!

  15. It is sad to see that this side attracts folks who need to insult people with a different point of view than their own.

Anyway, I have my doubts that any other manager would be able to, e.g. teach our 18m right-back how to defend or to put away a penalty in the last ten minutes of a match. I am as unhappy with the current state of our club, but I am not convinced that it is only Hodgson’s fault. Last season I wasn’t the biggest of Rafa-fans any more (to say the least), but still I blamed our overpaid prima-donna players who barely put any effort in for not getting the required results. And this hasn’t changed. Hardly any player on the pitch seems to be willed to take responsibility. Some if not most seem to think that results will come simply because we are Liverpool. That won’t happen and it is the players who need to take a long hard look at themselves. Basically they are, at least partly, responsible for Rafa’s sacking and now for Roy being questioned even more than when he took over the job (and that says something). From those who took the field yesterday I couldn’t name four players we should keep based on the performance they have delivered. Same as last season.

  16. Antoine, I feel quite honoured that you accept that some people may have an opinion which is different to yours, or to the main-stream in general. This stance makes you a very mature man. Now, what does it say about you if you try to ridicule someone who has his own opinion. Is this a sign of you being tolerant or able to accept that the world may not be just black and white? You decide yourself. If you need to fight with Jaimie then it’s up to you. I hate neither him nor you and I accept or even respect that you may have opinions that are different to mine. Freedom of speech and all that, you know. I won’t start ridiculing you for holding and voicing the opinions you hold. Sure, for you it is easy as you share, right now, your opinion with the majority. As Nietzsche once wrote: If you want life easy stay with the herd. I’ve decided a long time ago that I want to make up my own mind about things, even if the herd won’t accept me as a result of that and life may or may not be as easy as it could be. Surely not a reason to be ridiculed by you or anyone else.

    1. Anteater, it is not a matter of opinion however I want to warn you that Kanwar’s venom is very dangerous and you are drinking it.

He is even a Liverpool supporter himself, they guy just likes to cause trouble and that is why he always takes an opposing view. If everybody was happy with Roy I can bet money he would be attacking him.

  17. Antoine, I don’t get why you connect my to Jaimie Kanwar. And I didn’t drink his venom, whatever that may be. I don’t like to cause trouble, but if my view differs from that of the majority so be it. My opinion is, and I repeat myself here, that our demise is mainly down to our players not performing (for quite a while now) or not having the ability necessary to elevate us to the highs we believe they should. I don’t care if Mr. Kanwar is getting fired from all his jobs as this is basically his own business. I take care about myself in this regard and I don’t get fired from my jobs which require me to think independently. If you read all my comments you will surely have noticed that I don’t claim that Roy is a good enough manager for our club, but that the main problem lies elsewhere. My biggest fear is that we go down the same route as Newcastle who are considered as deluded by almost everybody but themselves.

  18. Toyally agree with anteater. The players are as responsible as anyone. Maybe they just arent good enough!!

    1. Yeah the players Rafa left are horrible *sarcasm*

#lfc set to recieve $695,000 from FIFA for the number of players and their time spent at the WC. Only Barca, Bayern and Chelsea earned more.

  19. Rafa really did a number on so many! Hodgson has to go, it is clear to all he is well out of his depth.
It is however, equally clear and obvious that Rafa turned the team/squad into a shambles that now habitually under perform. Unfortunately, his extended time allowed the rot to firmly set in. (note: the Italians don’t suffer such conmen for very long) and yet all the flak is directed at the current manager. Torres attitude is a disgrace.

  20. Antoine, you don’t seem to or don’t want to understand what I am trying to bring across. What I think has nothing to do with Rafa. I don’t care who’s brought those players in, but it was obvious last season that quite a few of them don’t seem to have their heart with our club. Or how do you explain that quite a few get picked for their respective national teams but don’t cut the mustard for us. BTW how many of our players have actually had a successful world cup. And what role did some play. Where they the fulcrum of their teams or just squad players. I don’t want to take away anything from them as it is quite an achievement to be selected by you national squad, but I don’t think it is right to say that we’ve had so many players at that competition and as a result of that we have to be at the top end of the league. I’d even go as far as to say that I’d prefer Samy Hyppia in his heyday over the lot we play at the back now and he has never played at a world cup. Harry Kewell on the other hand has. I think you get my point, right.
