I’m not saying that’s a proven fact, but if you think about it, as a kicker you’ve got to play it calm and cool. The longer you wait the more anxious the keeper becomes, and he either freezes or already moves one direction before the ball is struck.

In my opinion, Gerrard missed the penalty on purpose but did not do it with a bad intention. Before taking the penalty he apparently scratched his nipple but i think he was touching the Liverpool emblem and sort of talking to it saying, “Forgive me for what I’m about to do but it’s for your own good”. I think he wanted to show the owners that if Liverpool are getting hammered by a team like Blackburn than Hodgson should go. Like 96% of Liverpool fans, he knows that Hodgson is not right for the club and has to go.
PS: This is just my opinion.
