Not so long ago, the manager of Liverpool Football Club didn’t hope to win the League, he was expected to win it, maybe along with either the League Cup, FA Cup or even the European Cup, first is first, second is nowhere, that was the job.
Kenny Dalglish returns to the helm at Liverpool this weekend, and what a time to return, the club is enduring its worst season since 1992-93, when a certain Graeme Souness was in charge! Winning the League is now just a distant dream, a long but not quite forgotten memory.
Manchester United away in the FA Cup third round, live on TV for the footballing world to see, what a way to make a return as manager for the club you played for, and managed, winning 8 League Titles, 3 European Cups, 1 FA Cup, 4 League Cups, 4 Charity Shields + 1 shared, and 1 European Super Cup, all in a space of thirteen years! I’m sure at some point over the past 24-36 hours, Kenny must have sat down and thought ‘what the hell am I doing this for!’.
My only conclusion is that, it must be the same as you or I being single and meeting that drop dead gorgeous girlfriend / boyfriend from years ago that you always dreamed of having one more date with, and when you get that second chance no matter how much you want to say ‘no I’m not interested’, you just can’t help yourself, and it happens!! I truly hope that our beloved Kenny Dalglish can leave the job he has taken this weekend with the same adulation and respect that he has this weekend!
The only thing is, after ten years everything has sagged and her privates ain’t what they used to be.
Can only get better from now on,He’ll reintroduce
Football
Or maybe he’s just returning because he truly and genuinely
loves the club, and can’t bear to watch what has been happening to
it especially in the last 6 months. I think the fact that he’s
willing to risk his almost completely unblemished legacy and legend
to come back and try and even steady the ship, says a whole lot
more than some Manager who would be coming for the opportunity at
glory. I don’t believe that even King Kenny himself is deluded
enough to think that he can completely overhaul this group of
under-achiever’s overnight.
I think the main point here that King Kenny brings to the
table is the true character of what a Liverpool team is. And that
can only be taught by someone who breathes and lives it. It’s true
that if professional players only play for managers they like it’s
simply well unprofessional but leaders have to inspire. Like a
favourite teacher. You’d want to go to a place that will make you
better. And I truly believe that the years that King Kenny has been
out of the football management circle has not dimmed his ability to
learn or educate. As Ronnie Moran stated. Kenny was not the fastest
but his footballing brains gave him 20 yards more than the rest on
the field. You can never lose instincts. I believe that the break
he has had, has reignited the fire. The players will listen and
he’ll motivate. That was all was asked of Roy and being nice or not
he had failed spectacularly. We just want a Liverpool team that
plays like a Liverpool team. Give it more than a go every time they
put on the RED shirt. That I believe is what King Kenny brings to
the table more than any other manager in the world. Whether we win
anything is not the point. Whether we tried and how we tried is
more important to me. He was brave enough to put everything on the
line to put his name in the hat. He put Liverpool ahead of his
legendary status because he knew something had to be done. That
says a lot about his immaculate character. So let’s make the 12th
man be a greater force than before. Let’s make Anfield make
visitors tremble with fear again. And let’s put the RED pride back
into our hearts. We have looked and played like buffons the whole
of this season. And we’ve had enough enough. As the locals would
say in my side of the world. WE HAD NO ‘SEMANGAT’. Which translates
simply into having NO SPIRIT. NO PRIDE. Come on King Kenny. We’re
all behind you. Make us RED AGAIN. YNWA.
nicely said ron
So do I, Eain. I grew up watching Kenny with my dad in the kop. An icon in Liverpool. I look at 2 other players in this way- Gerrard and Carra.
In some ways it was difficult for Souness to take over after Kenny walked. Hillsborough had impacted hugely on KD and it could be debated that this was reflected with 1 0r 2 of his final purchases. It’s fair to say that it was an ageing team that needed an injection of fresh faces. Souness tried to make his own mark but obviously failed.
We’ve got to believe that we can rebuild for the future and get back to being serious title contendors. To do this we’ve got to all stop bickering between us and get behind the team again and revamp the squad wisely. There are players there that either do not seem to want to play for LFC or who probably dont possess the quality needed to be part of a title challenging set-up, no offence intended to them.
