Hypocritical nonsense.

When did fans and managers of other clubs become such experts on the situation at Liverpool and Roy Hodgson’s tenure? I wouldn’t mind so much if things were hunky dory at their clubs.

There’s Wenger, saying Roy Hodgson was a great manager last year so he’s still one this year. Look at the evidence Arsene; the results don’t lie. Maybe you should concentrate on delivering a trophy to the Arsenal fans that have started to get on your back after five barren years.

Then there’s Ferguson. It’s a bit short sighted of him to moan about how Hodgson deserves better. Does he not remember the treatment he’s had off his own fans? Perhaps my memory is playing tricks on me. I’m sure those fans started to question whether he was right to change his mind about retirement when from 2003-2006 they won a solitary FA Cup. And I could swear that Ferguson was also lucky to stay in a job when he first took over at Old Trafford after four barren years were ended with their first FA Cup win under him. Maybe he can’t remember back that far, he is getting on after all.

I’ve even heard West Ham supporters criticising Liverpool for getting rid of Hodgson and saying they’d happily have him replace Avram Grant. This is the same Avram Grant who would have won the Champion’s League with Chelsea had John ‘I’d band anyone’s wife’ Terry not slipped while taking the decisive penalty. The same Avram Grant who has got them to the Semi finals of the Carling Cup. And the same Avram Grant who was also only appointed last summer, just like Hodgson.

Well the people who have had a go at Liverpool supporters for our diabolical treatment of Hodgson and accused our owners of making the wrong decision in replacing him with Kenny should consider a few things. John Henry never appointed Hodgson. He inherited him from the previous owners, who only appointed him because wouldn’t rock the boat. Hodgson’s excuse that he never had a chance to put his stamp on the squad doesn’t ring true. He brought in Poulsen, Merieles, Cole and Konchesky. And finally I don’t think the Liverpool support can be in question just because we don’t want to settle for mediocrity. We’ve proved over the years that we are both passionate and loyal.

  1. So true, I’m sick and tired of ex players who never made it in football talking about Liverpool as if they’re expert pundits “cough” Merson “cough”

  2. Bang on, every word. And Ferguson nearly lost his job in 89-90 when Kenny was last in charge. They were shite then too!!

Other supporters should focus on their own clubs…………. everyone has the right to an opinion of course, but half of them never had the success the we enjoyed (and under Kenny!!!) so mediocrity is second nature to them, doesnt mean we have to accept it though!

  3. Wenger and Ferguson are supportive of Roy because they, like many of us had hoped that he’d take Liverpool on to a new challenge in The Championship!

  4. The good things though Lads is that we STILL get under
their skins! When we don’y do that then we really will be in
    trouble – smiles….

  5. But Hodgson actually wasnt a great manager last year.He has
never won anything of consequence in his [professional career. LFC
fans never got him sacked he got himself sacked with his clueless
negativity and alienation of his own supporters

  6. Me too There is far too much chit shat in the media I wish
everyone would just shut the f up and let us get on Even ourselves
need to make a vow of silence and not get caught up in all the
hysteria. We need to take a deep breath and just hope for slow
improvement and if we match last years league position count
    ourselves lucky.

  7. With the crap players Liverpool have at this moment in time NO manager will be successfull, including Dalglish who i have always adored. We need a cleanup at the club. We need quality players who will wear the Liverpool jersey with pride.

  8. I’m sorry, but maybe if our fans wern’t such whiney bastards they’d stay off our backs. We make fools out of ourselves every year by proclaiming it’s ‘our year’, we have a large elemant of bellends who ring talkshite or your on skysports, or post on popular websites talking absolute crap. Too many of our fans live in the past, calling ourselves a big club and expecting to hold the same clout besides the fact that there is a real threat of relegation. We need to start being humble, we’re now a midtable club, until someone comes along and changes the squad from top to bottom. The real worry is that NESV ain’t rich like man city or Chelsea so thats now 5 clubs at least who have more money and better squads than us, so unless NESV are prepared to dip their hand in their pocket and spend a few hundred million revitalizing the squad, then you’d all better get used to this sort of showing, cause no matter how romantic it sounds to these new yanks, buying kids and hoping they all blossom into a title winning side is pure fantasy, you need a strong first team and then have your promising kids knocking around the squad.

  9. I cannot stand EX player’s who think just because they played for us for a couple of season’s think they are expert’s in the history of our club and are continually given airtime by media companie’s.

  10. Nothing scares Fergie more than the sleeping giant that is our club. He knows that sooner or later we will back up at the top and having been through the bad times, we will be stronger for it! Keep the faith. YNWA

  11. Shelly you are spot on.Further to that what on earth was Christian Purslow doing sitting just in front of Carra and Steve last night? He supposedly left the club just kept on as a sounding board until the new owners get up to speed. It is beginning to look like a bad smell lingering on as with some ex-players constantly going on about the club on this and that a bunch of parasites the club needs to be shot of to finally move on and create a new culture of success.there are so many agendas the new owners are completely baffled hypocrisy reigns.Sorry for the rant.YNWA

  12. I do not agree that we are a mid-table club, some of our players are mediocre but can you honestly compare our sqaud to that of blackpool’s we have a better sqaud on paper. At present, we need a motivator, a manager who will lie his head off to his team just so they go on the pitch and play their butt’s off. Our away form is diabolical, but I firmly believe we can finish 7th this season then we can start rebuilding during the ‘real’ transfer window. Kenny Dalglish is our man, let’s be patient, we need a turnaround, we can’t have a miracle just yet.

  13. I for one don’t care what this idiots say. LFC is our club not theirs. The only reason they wanted Roy as our manager is because the know that they would get three points easy when thay play us. Why should we care what idiots like P Merson, A Gray, Purple Face and others say. King Kenny has very dificult job to do so we can never turn on him when the press start to jump on his back. We should support him and neve let the mafia(english press)get rid of the King until he decides to go. They got rid of Rafa we wont allow the same to happen again.YNWA

  14. “They got rid of Rafa we wont allow the same to happen again” You see, this is a perfect example of the problem at Anfield. Fans think that THEY run the club not the owners or management. If they want a manager to stay, nobody should be able to sack him and if they want one to go, the owners HAVE to do what they are told! Simply crazy.

  15. Here’s something else for you to think about Peter. You wrote that “It’s a bit short sighted of him (Ferguson) to moan about how Hodgson deserves better. Does he not remember the treatment he’s had off his own fans? Perhaps my memory is playing tricks on me. I’m sure those fans started to question whether he was right to change his mind about retirement when from 2003-2006 they won a solitary FA Cup. And I could swear that Ferguson was also lucky to stay in a job when he first took over at Old Trafford after four barren years were ended with their first FA Cup win under him.”

THAT is precisely the point my friend. United fans were calling for his head but the club stuck with him instead. Look at the success United would have probably missed out on if the fans demands were acted upon and Fergie was sacked in his early years at Old Trafford.

You can rest assured however that if that scenario took place at Anfield today, Ferguson would have been gone as quickly as Hodgson was.

  16. Not sure I understand the Ferguson link. Yes, there were strong calls for his sacking early in his reign but surely that emphasizes the fact that patience may actually be a virtue?

Arsenal haven’t won anything for 5 years but anyone who thinks that isn’t going to change in the near future is simply being unrealistic. Arsenal have a new ground, great talent (now and in the future), secure finances and are not in a potential relegation battle.

Let’s not forget that we last one a significant trophy in 2006. Seems like we’re coming pretty close to 5 years ;)

  17. NO SORRY THE FANATIC ELEMNET HAS PLAYED ITS PART, HIDING BEHIND THE ‘IM NOT ACCEPTING MEDIOCRITY’ MANTRA IS RIDICULAS, WEVE BEEN POOR FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS AND THE ME/NOW F EVERY BODY ELSE! GENERATION CANT HANDLE IT.
WHEN THE CHIPS R DOWN U TOGHEN UP, LOYATY ? DON’T MAKE ME LAUGH.

CHEAPEST OPTION TO SACK THE MANAGER, NOT VIABLE TO PAY OFF THE DOZEN OR MORE HALF WITS TRYING TO PASS THEMSELEVS OF AS FOOTBALLERS!

HODGSON’S PLANS FAILED HOWEVER HOW CAN YOU CREATE? WHEN YOUR UNDERMINED FROM THE START!
. £1OO,OO0 A WEEK WHEN THEY CANT TRAP THE BALL AND HAVE A 1ST TOUCH LIKE JACK THE RIPPER .

THINGS HAVE BEEN DEEPLY WRONG FOR TO LONG, ON AND OFF THE GRASS.
NO ONE HAS COME THROUGH THE LAST FEW YEARS WITHOUT SOILED HANDS. A FEW LOUDMOUTHED FANS? FOR ONE –
PREMATURE ANHILIATION OF PLAYERS TRYING TO EARN A RED SHIRT
SPITEFULL IS THE TREATMENT OF SOME PLAYERS RECENTLY LUCAS AND EVEN KONCESKEY (YOUD THINK HE DROVE OVER A CHLD)
GOODNESS KNOWS THE LOGIC OF PERSECUTING SOMEONE EARLY IN THEIR LFC CARREER!

AS FOR THE EMPTY SEATS RECENTLY – DIDND SEE THAT WHEN THE PREVIOUS YANKS NEARLY DESTROYED OUR CLUB!
    QUITE BAFFELING
GOOD LUCK DAGGERS (JUST WATCH YOUR BACK?)

  18. Correct Brad, the point is that patience CAN very often be a virtue as shown in the Ferguson and Wenger instances. Many Liverpool fans do not have that virtue however and insist on putting unreasonable pressure on the club’s decision makers to bend to their will as illustrated by the comment made by Bekim “They got rid of Rafa we wont allow the same to happen again” Big mistake.

  19. How is it that “results don’t lie” for managers but not for
players? Other than Reina, who’s been exemplary considering the
leaky defense in front of him, I can’t think of another player or
pairing that leads me to believe we’re anything other than a
mid-table club at this point in time. Paper CV’s lie all the time
so results cannot be placed squarely on the manager – tactics and
inspiration can only go so far in filling in the gaps and we have
gaps in spades from front to back. Until we get both new starters
onto the pitch and the lads we see so much promise in are truly
ready to make the bump I’d be shocked if we finish higher than
ninth with the lot we have on the pitch right now. We’ve been
declining for nearly two years. It’s high time the fans who keep
wanting that magic wand to wave and bring us back to glory douse
their fantasies with a hearty dose of reality and realize that the
rot that has been eating away at our club’s quality has been extant
for many years now. This is a long-term reparation that will result
in uneven performances for the remainder of the campaign and into
the next until those new faces settle in.

  20. The difference is Fergie and Wenger (like King Kenny) all
play attacking footy even when they are not winning trophies, Roy
didn’t….. Maybe we need to re-assess. We’ve got the right owners,
the right manager, the players are under scrutiny and maybe now its
time the ‘fans’ were too????Perhaps after 3 years of fighting we’ve
all become a little bitter and twisted? I know i for 1 feel sooo
much frustration at watching our once great club slip from the top
(when Kenny was last in charge) through 20 years of mediocrity bar
1 or 2 isolated title challenges(and istanbul!!) to now become a
team slowly slipping into a relegation battle, while teams like the
chavs, citeh and spurs who we used to piss on have taken our place
at the top table. But the bottom line is unless we all sing from the
same hymn sheet like everyone involved in the club the slide will
continue. At the end of the day we all want the same thing….. ”
At the end of the storm, there’s a golden sky and the sweet silver
    song of a lark”…

  21. The problems have been trifold for the past 1.5 seasons.
    We now have-

    a) new owners now in

    b) 2 managerial changes also- both with a hx of dubious transfer dealings if we are honest/ some good players too. Some of the ‘better players’ have sadly been sold though.

    c) the state of the current squad. This has been a hot potato this past half year- Pro-RB fans have insisted that the squad he left was ‘class’. Woy then bought Konchesky and Poulsen (meireles and cole are decent). truth hurts, but this squad is not good enough if we wish to compete.
I’m not going to single out names because there are several. The fact is that if we want to genuinely challenge for top honours then we need to spend wisely in the short, medium and longterm. The transfer market is hyperinflated and we are turning into a top 8 side now- sad but true. Very hard to find value and I think this reflects in this becoming such an open PL season.
We will come back, but apart from doing a ‘man city’ it is going to take time and faith.

  22. what a load of twaddle this article is –
the only noncence and hypocritic rambaling is the writters.

its a question of balance reality and objective fairness.
replacing roy does not fix the bucket full of problems we have.
    its simmply the cheapest option.
we shud be looking at the boardroom decisions 3 mangagers in 6 moths yet only one striker upfront for 2 years!
    yeh that makes sence!

as for ‘I dont think Liverpool support can be in question just because we don’t want to settle for mediocrity. We’ve proved over the years that we are both passionate and loyal.’
    dont make me laugh!
the premature anhiliation of red men trying to earn a shirt is dissgracefull and far from loyal.

add the fact that the home crowd have been outsung at anfield every league game for over 25 years and these claims dissapear like the attendances!

true fans need to man up
