My Top 8 Ryan Babel moments

Posted by

After spending 3 1/2 seasons at Liverpool, Ryan Babel is on his way to 1899 Hoffenheim, here are my top eight Ryan Babel moments during his time at LFC.

#8 Complaining on Twitter about not getting enough play time, Rafa then fined and imposed a ban on him.

#7 Tweeting CEO meeting a few weeks ago and unknowingly started a rumour that Roy was about to be fired. The CEO meeting was for the record label he owns.

#6 Coming off the bench on September 13th 2008 and scoring the winning goal against Manchester United.

#5 Scoring with his arse against Besiktas in the 2007/08 Champions League Group Stage, Ryan ended getting credit for two of Liverpool’s eight goals.

#4 Goal against Lyon in last seasons Champions League Group Stage, the goal came out of nowhere and for a while we looked like we would qualify however Lyon got an equaliser in stoppage time.

#3 Goal against Arsenal in the 2007/08 Champions League knock out stage, a solo run by Ryan ensured Liverpool’s 4-2 win and qualify for the Semi-Final.

#2 Tweeting a picture of Howard Webb wearing a Man Utd shirt, the tweet cost him £10,000 however he earned the respect of many Liverpool fans.

#1 Getting upset with me after my fake Retweet, he later accepted my apology and gave me a few shout outs later.

Good luck Ryan

  1. @georgio11 – Yes, a bit sad really. Probably highlights one reason why he may not have seen as much football as we may have wanted. Hopefully he gets his head down at Hoffenheim and tries to recapture the skill and drive that made him such a good prospect in the first place.

  2. Such potential and never really nurtured at Liverpool.
Should have signed for arsenal, you would be world class now.
    Liverpool
    Loss is your gain.
    Good luck sir!
    YNWA

  3. Thank you for all your hard work Ryan!I would have loved to see you starting regularly for us but I wish you the best. I will continue to cheer you on as a hip hop head and as a footballer. Big up!

  4. what the hell! there’s still somebody in the lfc organization that understand something about football? they’ve allowed woy to send like a gift aqua to juve for poulsen, to aquire koncesky…and now that is the time to test (seriously) our youngest players they sell babel for few pounds!? this organization is a joke! ryan has not show his potential yet i know, but he’s still very young and he has great potential, his biggest problem is lack of personality and aggression in the game, but with experience he can become a top class player, and another important thing…he’s a good guy, today it’s not so easy, so let him go for few pounds is a big mystake for me and someday it’s possible that we’ll regret this

  5. Unbelievable how his value has plummeted. Never given a chance to stake a claim. Should have been molded into a right winger. Can’t stand left sided right footed players. So I don’t want young or Elia there either. And iron it out of young sterling too. If we don’t get a decent left footed reasonably priced, I’d rather see young Thomas ince get a go.

  6. his long range shot goal against cech in the champions league which kept us believing for a qualification till the final whistle wasn’t bad either…
thanks & best of luck for the future ryan..

  7. I hope that Babel goes on to achieve great things, he had the potential and I still don’t think he got the run in the team that he deserved. And never really got a run in the team alongside Torres. I’d have sooner seen N’gog moved on. Let’s face it, there are bids for Babel but no one has been knocking our door down for N’gog, that should tell us something. I think he would have achieved more at a different club and hope that he now achieves success at his next club. With all the talk about Suarez, I think it should be mentioned that Babel seems like a decent guy as well. Maybe some of the tweets were silly, and maybe he did not have the confidence to push on when he should have done here, but when you see some of the lowlifes who walk onto a football pitch there is nothing that Babel has done that deserved the fine that he got, compared to many others. Anyway, good luck to you, Ryan, scored some great goals for us, hopefully you’ll get many more at your next club.

  8. My favourite moment was when he blocked me on twitter. Not sad he’s gone, to be honest. It was just a matter of time and let us be honest, we won’t miss him that much

  9. Blocked me too Amanda and I never even said he was rubbish. Always suggested either playing up front, central mid or on the right, yes in that order!

  10. Well, if ‘not missing him that much’ was the grounds for selling any of our players, we’d only have about 5 players left. So, who next? Could it be that no one is interested in most of our players? So, that should tell us something. I’d have Babel over N’gog any day of the week, and it seems so would other clubs. It’s only at Anfield that N’gog has been given countless chances to fall over while Babel sits on the bench with twice as much talent as him.
