Fernando Torres…

Posted by
As I’m sure we all know by, Liverpool have publicly rejected a bid from Premier League rivals Chelsea for striker Fernando Torres ahead of the January transfer window closing on Monday evening. Chelsea are in need of a decent forward to help their faltering title defence after slipping from first to fourth in the league, ten points behind leaders Manchester United.
Liverpool’s American owner John Henry is not prepared to let one of his top players leave, with the team showing delicate signs of a recovery since Kenny Dalglish returned to the manager’s job at the start of the month. Consecutive victories and clean sheets have lifted Liverpool away from the relegation zone up to seventh, nine points behind Chelsea in the final Champions League qualification spot.
The bid for Torres was put at around £35 million, although Torres has only found the net nine times for Liverpool this season, three of those goals have come since Kenny Dalglish replaced Roy Hodgson as manager.
Why didn’t Chelsea bid for Torres at the start of the transfer window when Hodgson was still in charge? Why wait until the last weekend?
I think Chelsea may just be starting to panic a little, maybe they feel they’re not strong enough to qualify for next season’s Champions League! I believe Torres will leave if Liverpool fail to qualify for the Champions League, which looks very likely at this point of the season, and where will he go? Chelsea or Manchester City probably, as they’re the only clubs who could afford the £45-50 million pricetag.
If and when Torres goes, I imagine that Pepe Reina will leave too, and my guess on that one is to Manchester United, seeing as Van der Sar is set to retire in May! Let’s hope Liverpool pull off a miracle and somehow manage to finish in the top four this season, otherwise next season could be even harder to bear than this one!

  1. I dont think he will leave if we miss champions league this year, 4th spot is not impossible to achieve IMO

  2. if we sell we should not be selling to chelsea or scum, its bad enough to lose your best but to sell them to your rivals is just stupid. I think as long as Kennys there we wont be selling to the mancs, he knows how the fans would react, fergie refuses to sell to us so we should adopt the same stance also with chelsea. let them go back to spain to play for barca or real if we have to sell!!! YNWA

  3. Riena to the scum behave yourself that really is ridiculous we would never sell to them and he wouldn’t join them

  4. I doubt he will leave. And no way he would go to Real, he hates them. And I doubt Pepe will leave too…
They showed their commitment and loyalty to Liverpool and I don’t think it’s gonna change any time soon…

  5. Hopefully the Suarez deal is not coming from the sale of Torres..Chelsea have Drogba and Anelka..Selling Torres would still leave us with only one class striker , Suarez. We’ll need Torres and Suarez to bridge the gap with the top four or five. They all have stronger forward lines..that is the difference.

  6. i dont think pepe will leave. But torres might leave. If a worthy 50 million plus is being offered we should let him move and thank him for his loyal services till date. karim benzama from real mardid would be a great replacement. Karim and luis would make us a great attacking force to be recokned with. YNWA

  7. Reina to Mancs? Not likely.Torres? I wouldn’t believe everything Balague says. Lets see how this plays out. Whatever happened to loyalty?

  8. I believe this whole thing was orchestrated by Torres’s people. No doubt striker help was promised in order to get him to stay last summer. As the Suarez deal looked to be falling apart I would bet this was just a reminder that Torres is serious about expecting help. An interesting theory anyway…

  9. Ok, we received a bid for Torres. Big deal. Chelsea are hardly in better shape than us and we arguably have a brighter future ahead of us. We have owners that are determined to make us champions again, but are doing it in a long-term oriented, sustainable way. From what I’ve read Roman isn’t going to keep spending through the roof. United is also going to be going through some crazy times as red nose retires and that mountain of debt becomes unserviceable.

We ARE going to be bringing in new talent and while we are getting older and have lost a few players, we are still 90% the team that came in 2nd two seasons ago. With the right manager and intelligent investment, we are far from a sinking ship. There is NO reason to expect any of our top players to leave unless a club wants to pay ridiculous money ala Ronaldo, in which case it just makes sense to sell.

  10. Rooney to city never happened massive pay rise was the end result. Tevez going to retire or go back to Argentina, again never happened but got a massive pay rise. Liverpool bought by new owners on the cheap due to situation with H&G, new strikers purchased for close to same money as Torres. I bet you he will get a nice bumper pay rise as he gets more shirt sales worldwide than any other LFC player. Benitez confirmed he is the “corner stone” of LFC publicly in asia, Standard Charted are our sponsor with its main base in Asia. So come on do me a favour torres to chelsea reina to the scum MY ARSE show some faith fickle people like most of us did in Istanbul and remember YNWA.

  11. If he wants to go after all these rumours then let him. No player bigger than the club. How about a cheeky bid for sergio aguerro?
He’s 22, very marketable and a new partnership could be in the making. It will all come good with Kenny at the helm. If there is money for the right transfer, then go for Sergio and take their young prospect and really annoy the rent boys.

  12. IF TORRES GOES TO CHELSEA HES A SCUMBAG AND HAS CHATTED SHIT ALL THE TIME HE WAS HERE IF HE GOES I HOPE HE BREAKS A LEG AND FINISHES HIS CAREER DONT DO IT NANDO IT WILL COME BACK 2 HAUNT YOU

  13. Joke of a website reina to the mancs source: daily star very reliable last time ill ever visit this site again wasting peoples time.

  14. Never read such a load of rubbish in my life what you said about reina! If Torres wants to go let him go,if he ain’t happy with us,stuff him.with 50 mil we can buy 3 decent players who maybe won’t be out for 6 months when they trip over a blade of grass.so much for the bullshit in his autobiography,I want a refund :-|

  15. Rubbish story, a deliberate attempt by Chelsea to destabilise a recovering Liverpool under King Kenny. The fact is Chelsea are panic struck by the prospect of a resurgent Liverpool. Torres has stated numerous times he is happy to stay at the club he loves. If he was that type, he would have left Liverpool much sooner when things were so bad at the club. He knows the only way for Liverpool now is up and with Suarez coming in among others, he will relish having the team rebuilt around his strengths. Torres we trust in you. YNWA

  16. TORRES INTERVIEW ON OCTOBER 2009″I’m a foreign player, so maybe I don’t have to think like that, but I know how the Liverpool fans feel and I remember the welcome I had when I arrived – it was just amazing, so I think Liverpool is my English club.

“I hope to play a lot of years or maybe even finish my career here. I don’t know, but Liverpool is my English team and I don’t think about playing for another one.”

I don’t know, but Liverpool is my English team and I don’t think about playing for another one.”!!!!

  18. Liverpool are scum. Rubbish team, living off past glories. Let’s face it, the closest pool came to challenging was one 2nd place.. And that too not much of a challenge. There is a new big 4 now, and its arsenal, man u, chelsea and man city..with spurs challenging for 5th.
Pool will forever be below those teams. Fact.
Catch a wake up. U will always walk alone

  19. players come players go n we will always remember therm for their performances n commitment to lfc we must remember they human n want wats best for themselves n their familys jus like the faNS SO I SAY DONT GO FERNANDO STAY WITH US BUT IF U REALLY DONT WANT TO THANKS FOR THE GOOD TIMES U BROUGHT N THE JOY U GAVE US WEN WE BEAT OUR RIVALS ULL NEVER B FORGOTTEN AND YOULL NEVER WALK ALONE

  20. this stinks to high heaven! Torres gave his commitment to the club in August when RH came onboard, for the season, despite David Villa’s comments to the contrary. And Reina to the mancs?! Pigs will fly before that happens…

  21. i hope mr broughton has not been interfering in this, he phoned torres quite a lot during the take over period.

  22. fernando is supposed to have said he wants liverpool to consider the bid, liverpool said he is not going ! consider it considered and the answer is no.

  23. It’s funny how all these rumors of Torres wanting to leave has just started out of the blue yet only a couple of weeks ago he was happy to stay and help LFC to be the best again. But there hasn’t been any quotes of him saying this rubbish and I will only believe it if he says it in person on tv!

  24. All this negative bollocks from easy led sheep, listen a great signing today showing owners intent for the future,I don’t believe nando wants to leave and real signs of talent coming through the ranks and already we’re signing qualify youth.I like everyone else was more than a little bit worried when Americans bought us again but I’m starting to get a good feeling about our future and things look like there starting to click into place.have faith guys.

  25. honestly, i want them to stay with us, just like bruce stuck with man utd. though i’m sure we’ll begin winning si,verware starting wit the europa league. however, if any1 wants to leave, very well. no one is bigger than the club. if we culd sell keegan, we can sell anybody.

  26. El nino to the rentboys and Pepe Reina to the scum. It wont happen mate. With El Nino and Suarez up front Champions league here we come. YNWA

  27. 9 points and a game in hand, to far ………………..4th not poss we have through it this season we are shite

  28. @king kenny. You are not a proper lfc fan if that’s the way u think. Torres has given us quality week in, week out and hasn’t said anything. All he asked was to play for a club who were competitive. After all that happened last year with our medical staff nearly ruining the lads world cup I am surprised he’s given us the last 6 months! Thanks for your good witk Nando, all the best la

  29. Torres has submitted a transfer request.
Sell him, he is no longer committed. Screw Chelsea for as many millions a possible. Torres will regret it and I feel sorry for him. He is making a huge mistake by joining an ageing team on the slide. He could have been a legend at Liverpool but will go down as a very good player instead. Another Owen.

  30. He has been indifferent for 18 months. We can reinvest the money on players who aren’t injury prone and who are hungry. Players who honour their word. Torres has now revealed with this official transfer request that he is simply a self seeking footballer. I always thought he had a bit more class and respect for his club, supporters and teammates. More fool me, he is no different from players like, Tevez, Anelka and Rooney.

  31. @amla bet you have a skank utd an sky blue shite shirt both in the wardrobe ya glory hunting pleb history is everything otherwise no one would be who they are today inc Liverpool an you an me so go get bent an follow your bankrupt/bankrolled club ya dirty dirty manc.

  32. No player is bigger than the Red Jersey. If they wantto leave let them leave to whereever they want to go…..as long as we get the best deal to buy better players. We are on the up now and with The King with us maybe just maybe the title will be coming back home soon where it belongs.

Like The Koz mentioned, it could have been a ploy by Torres to push the owners to buy Suarez as he was concerned the buy was going to collapse.

Alma, We will Never Walk Alone as we have enough Reds here to keep each other company…..
