We Are Liverpool FC and We Will Walk On

Posted by

Like any fan of football/soccer the January transfer window is greatly feared and very much so exciting. We all fear that our favourite player is going to be sold or request a transfer to a new club. We are also excited for the fresh talents that will come to our clubs. Today was an emotional roller coaster for every Liverpool FC fan because of this. The day started out with Chelsea making a bid for £35 million for Fernando Torres. The club immediately shut this down saying ‘Torres is not for sale’. This was a breath of fresh air for every fan. They thought a nightmare had been avoided. Then the fantastic news that LFC had up-ed their bid for Luis Suarez and Ajax had accepted and talks with the player began. This again was great news for every Koppite. They had finally gotten a world class striker to partner with Torres up front. The rumours that Fernando wanted to leave continued throughout the day, but fans were too elated to can and just brushed them off as silly rumours. After all, not two weeks ago Torres stated that he was going to finish his contract with Liverpool FC and he was loyal to the club and fans. However, LFC later confirmed the news that Fernando Torres had put in a transfer request. When I saw this I immediately wanted to see what everyone else was saying about this. Being a lifelong fan of Liverpool, I personally felt gutted and went through a vast amount of emotions in a matter of minutes. The fan comments are about as diverse as my feelings.

The majority of comments were pure hurt and disappointment. Many fans stayed loyal to him and felt betrayed by this news:

“Fernando… you are not serious… haven’t believed a word of this all day. Guess it was true. What happened to him? Absolutely devastated.” Jellies

“This hurts, I think my heart is broken I was lucky enough to meet him when I was in Liverpool it was the happiest day of my life. I never thought that a day were we break our transfer record is a depressing day” Aidan91

“You have let us down Fernando. Well done for ruining a great day for all LFC fans…” WeNYaN

“TORRES YOU SAID “YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE” HOW COULD YOU DO THIS… HOW CAN WE PROGRESS WITHOUT YOU!!!” LFChampion

“Seriously Nando? Now? And to Chelsea?! This really hurts. Just a few weeks ago you said you always commit to your contracts? I feel betrayed. Lies all along I guess… :-( I can’t bear to see him in a blue shirt” jzkg123

Many supporters turned their hurt into anger at Torres for his disloyalty to the club:

“Come on Fernando honour your contract and us fans, we adore you more than any other club could ever, you want world class, well Suarez is world class, think of the way you, Gerrard and Suarez can play 2gether, wait till at least summer, if your still not happy then leave but not now, not 2 Chelsea either, if you really love LFC you wouldn’t move 2 Chelsea or united!!!!!!” craigtyper

“Rage is setting in. Absolutely SHOCKIN!!!! I can’t understand it. It must be another Rooney like move, agents no doubt behind it. This will be tough to accept and forgive” yzee                                                                       “so much for “honoring” your contract “squatman

Others questioned his motives or reasons for the transfer request:

“Could have waited until the summer, bad timing on his part. A) Just signed decent support for him, B) New manager, C) New owners. His best time here is to come, but see ya!” Brutality

“Why Nando why? We don’t deserve this. But there ain’t anyone bigger than the club.” releaze

I even found one brave commenter who is sticking by Torres though everything:

“Can’t believe how quickly some of you are turning on Torres, he is an absolute legend and a quality player.. would be gutting to see him go!” woodylfc94

There were also some who made harsh, but comical comments about Chelsea:

“hope Abromavich goes bankrupt” updareds9

“Hope John Terry enjoys your wife!!!!” boyle85

The most painful comments to read were the ones reminiscing about happier days with Torres:

“‘Again he proved he was a red Torres, Torres He put the transfer talks to bed Torres, Torres He told King Kenny where he stands, He loves the club and he loves the fans Fernando Torres Liverpool’s number 9.’ ;(” Sabia1
“Thanks for the memories Fernando…” kura2008

“What have you done with your armband, Fernando?” Offense

Through all these variety of comments there was a common theme: no one player is bigger than Liverpool. Although this news is gutting to many fans, including myself, we need to remember that Liverpool has a great history and great fans that are loyal beyond belief. It will be hard even if he is to stay at Liverpool because he has taken the thing that fan cherish most in a Red, loyalty to the club. But Fernando has not left yet, and we need to support him while he is still wearing our badge. Even after, we need to wish him luck in the future. If he does leave, don’t give up on the club. We need to keep in mind that Liverpool was Liverpool long before Fernando Torres and it will still be Liverpool long after he is gone. We have a fantastic new striker who will hopefully help us out, and we will always prevail through the hard times. Just listen to the lyrics of You’ll Never Walk Alone. ‘Walk on through wind Walk on through the rain And YOU’LL NEVER WALK  ALONE’.

  1. sunderland fan here. obviously we had the same with darren bent. made all sorts of comments last october about how it was the perfect club for him and he wanted to a legend here. bruce, quinn and the fans were all bigged up.
then it turns out he made a transfer request 2 months earlier. fenerbache were offering big bucks.at least your guy appears to want to leave due to champions league status, and errmm..ofcourse big bucks.
i guess its times like these that we all realise the only loyalty will ever come from local players. that said, gerrard flirted with chelsea didnt he ?
good luck with rebuilding anyway. has seemed liek you need players who are hungry this season. torres has stuffed himself now, so let him go starve at abromovich corporate buffet and you take his dosh.will be good riddance come next season.

  2. How can we blame him?

    1) Why can he not wait another 3 and a half months and then go in the summer? He can still play CL (if Chelsea make 4th) and Liverpool will have time to get new players in.

    2) Why 3 days before the deadline so we have no time for replacements?

    3) Why go when we have new owners with hardly any debt,a new manager and look like we are on the way up? Why go to a team that has an aging squad and will definately not win the league?

    4) Why go to our bitterest rivals and not wait till the summer and go abroad or even to City?

Your desire to leave Fernando is understandable but its the way that you have gone about it that will linger for many years to come. One day when your older and a bit wiser you will realise that no amount of money and even glory can replace dignity and love

  3. Welcome to the “mediocre” world where you are ripe for your best players to cherry picked by the so called “bigger” clubs.
The fact that it’s Chelsea makes it even more depressing.

Very sad, but it happens :-(

  4. Right you lot, listen. Yes we love him, yes he showed his love for us but, true colours show. He was the captain of his boyhood team and he left them, look at our Catain. We paid £22m we could get £50m. If you watch the game where Torres set up Gerrards goal with that header, not sure who it was against but the celebration said it all, Torres went to Celebrate with Gerrard and Gerrard blanked him and you could see something has happened. He want glory so let him go to Chelsea an ageing team and like Owen he will live to regret it. Just think what £50m could get us, we have just sgnd a player as good as him and 3 years younger. I no it hurts but he will be the one with regret. YNWA

  5. The fact that he submitted his request say’s it all for me. Let him go. Thanks for the good times FT9. “Long reign the KING”

  6. torres has gone ,chelsea have just offered 50 mill.just a matter of time this is from the liverpool camp fact.

  7. I will never forget his celebration, when he slid on his knees and ended sitting with his feet and arms crossed rignt on the edge of the pitch. Sheer Class Nino, sheer class!!!!

  8. At last I can hear the real voice of football speak .. Liverpool fans are back !

For to long we have lost the spirit to be the foundations of this great club, this great city …. The comments above are echoing the real fans … Torres U have been our self instructed hero but it seems you are questioning that role … so be it, if you want to go .. please do so with our love and fond memories … but we are a club, an entity made from a mixture of physical holy ground, passionate staff and an army of loyal supports within a wonderful city and Torres will be remembered with fondness after he’s gone but not missed, just moved on … it comes to us all but a degree of dignity makes the whole experience some much nicer …

Torres can stay and start to show the liverpool heart or he can go, we just walk on, with Kenny, times are good either way :-)

    RR

  9. hear it first chelsea has offered the big 50.hes defo going , we will be playing against us on sunday week gog help him when we do the double ho ho

  10. Liverpool fans have got to be the cheesiest fans going. With no CL, you’ve got sod all to offer. Get used to the fact that your now a selling club. I know you’ve just spent 21 million, but you’ve also sold a good few players over the last 18 months, so the yanks have only spent what you’ve brought in.

  11. First of all…great player I love him and I would love him to stay. He’s one of the best. This season though you can see he isn’t himself he isn’t happy andthats hard to watch too. No fans will treat fernando as well as we treated him. Players like mascherano and torres we just need to let go of. Our club is full of history and it isn’t about money it’s about loyalty passion and staying together. Let him go I want players who will give 110% fight for the shirt.50m would give us2 maybe 3 quality additions who want to play for us. Fernando could do with knowing what it means to fans though. We live for our team these win it makes work so much easier through the week. Moods can be decided by results. How many fans at a top club when 3 0 down in a champions league final would sing there anthem…Chelsea wouldn’t believe me. Gutted thought mascherano went about things the wrong this is near enough worse

  12. The lad has said he needs to see ambition at the club, Suarez is a good buy but Fernando was looking for three or more good buys. If the club had made more effort earlier in the window instead of messing about with rediculously low bids giving the impression of not being serious maybe we would not be looking at another possible “goodby”

  13. If you get cancer in your dick you gotta cut it out or cut it off… it don’t matter that its your dick as your life is more important!.
Torres was riddled with injury at Madrid then Liverpool and this will continue at Chelsea plus this is a player with no heart. 50 million for Torres is a great bit of business for LFC.

  14. good bye an good riddence, has been a shadow of the player he was for the last year anyway, just show us the 50m reddies an he will b replaced and the red dynasty will begin

    ynwa

  15. bye bye torres. Do not change your mind or heart now(if you have any!). Too late to appologize!!!!!
Come on Suarez be a true LEGEND AND BELIEVE IN YNWA FOREVER

    ynwa

  16. If Torres wishes to go then the club should let him. It would only upset me to see him uninterested and sulking through games. As like many I’m disappointed by his transfer request. Having heard him reiterate his dedication to the club recently makes it even tougher. In the event that he decides to stay, well then that’s great. With Liverpool he has the chance to become a true legend. With chelsea he’s just another talented mercenary. No one is player is bigger than the club.

We’ll get through this with or without him. We always do. YNWA

  17. Do you know i have no issue with him going (would still be a legend) if he went in June. It’s the fact he put in his request after the game against fulham.

When did he say goodbye to the fans????? When did he give us a chance to give him an ovation? Surely if he had respect that would come into his timing.
I would NEVER leave a companyw here i got on with people and left for reasons like furthering my career and NOT say goodbye to colleagues/fans. SO just don’t get it. Something has happened. He’s not a complete d@&k by any means so again, something has made him act like this. I still think the buck stops with him but surely you woudln’t want to leave without playing a final game for your fans and letting them know that that’s your last game?

    Confused and hurt.

  18. YEAH we are a selling club alright..thats why we’re turning up our noses at forty million..how many clubs are big enough to do that..get a grip.

  19. What a laugh, are you gonna Bounce Now? Happy New Year or what, the Ladyboy exits and the rest rejoice, so much for Kennys return, the scouse will be lucky to finish top 8,youre NOT famous anymore!

  20. Timbo, you refer to Sunderland in sept i think when gerrard scored at anny rd end from Torres cross. Gerrard ran to Torres and Torres ignored him and ran away. It’s all due to Torres and others being unhappy with carra and to a lesser extent gerrard for their involvement in getting rid of rafa and bringing in woy.

  21. sounda like a blue, fuck you and that russian twat, he’ll be off soon and you’ll go the way of leeds, just hope nandough moneygrabber gets to see it.

  22. This is the REALITY that must be accepted folks. Liverpool FC is now walking alone! When Torres gives up the fight, Pepe is certain to follow. The war is lost!

  23. G-mann(well said nobody is bigger than our club) Well. Gerrard and Carrager are bigger than our club. They played big part in Benitez being sacked so maybe just maybe Torres knows that. And for Gerrard and somebody very limited as player as Carrager to run the club it gets on other players nerves. So if you were Torres than maybe you would do the same. I dont blame him at all for wanting to go. I just dont get it that he wants to go to the Rentboys. If it was Barcelona than i would understand i would wish him all the best but the Rentboys God i feel sick. El Nino Please stay at least till the end of the season and than good luck if you still want to go. PORFAVOR El Nino stay.

  24. Seems to me if he wanted to be traded he should of stated so on January 1…
Reminds me of a Red Sox Player (Manny)….
    Fernando being Fernando
what an ass hole…….Go REDS Go RED SOX

  25. I think before speculating and all, we must hear it from the man himself. His agent needs to clarify this, Liverpool hasnt made much progress on the news, ance said he doesnt have anything to say, so see? before calling names and all, be sure that what your talking about is true. I love torres and i havent slept properly since that dreaded friday night when he “handed” the transfer request. let’s wait for the announcement

  26. why chelsea? which way are they headin! its got agent written all over it. havin said that we should only want him to stay so long as he wants to! otherwise take their money and everyone moves on. YNWA

  27. with a bit of look torres or abramovich look at the chelsea fan site and see the fans dont want him, i’d like to wait till the summer then let him go for 50 mill if he feels the same and get benzema or llorente for 35 mill and team them up with saurez the only prob is weather torres stays or goes hell be no use to us with his tantrums, where was chelseas bid when we gave him his premier league chance.

  28. Before you leave fernando, you might try and imagine how you will feel the next time you walk alone beneath the this is anfield sign wearing that blue turncoats shirt. It will be an experience you will never forget.

  29. Why torres.we loved u even when u went 9 games with 1 goal and u wil leave us with 3 days left to go.hav a heart.go in the summer coz another year wont heal the wound.we wil never walk alone.ever!!!

  30. Time for the truth lads, Torres was very much disliked in the dressing room, Carra and Gerrard went off him long ago, after they told him to put a shift in. This will come out as soon as he is gone!!!!!

  31. for me torres and owen are just two traitors.but the thing is that when owen was playing with us we won some trophies .on the other hand torres got nothing

  32. what a load of nonsense and hypocritical ram baling this is

its a question of balance, reality and objective fairness.

selling nando may be a chance to fix the bucket full of problems we have.

    60 million + would be a fine start to a new stadium/legacy

for reasons its come to this we shud be looking at the long list of inept boardroom decisions such asa –
3 managers in 6 moths yet only one striker upfront for 2 years!
    yeh that makes sense!

as for people stating loyalty – ‘We’ve proved over the years that we are both passionate and loyal.’
    dont make me laugh!
the premature annihilation of red men trying to earn a shirt is disgraceful and far from loyal.

out of proportion the loudmouth spouting at some – you’d think konceshkey had run over children in his car! totally riddiculas!

add the fact that the home crowd have been out sung at anfield every league game for over 25 years and these claims disappear like the attendances!

we should get as much as poss from the oil sucking landlord, they are despearte to get the likes of nando before uefa’s new rules on finances stop their game.
add the fact they will have even more foriegn players and ARE GIVING US STURRIDGE! it doesn’t seem as bad as first thought.

true fans need to man up

  33. Nobody seems to want to understand the football reality in 2011.

1 – Does anyone comprehend the influence that player agents have on their clients?

2 – Does anyone realise how much money will be made by Fernando’s agent from a 30-50 million transfer and a huge increase in Nando’s wages?

3 – Will Liverpool fans ever accept that since Torres came to Anfield in August 2007 Liverpool has won NOTHING while Chelsea won a Premiership and two FA Cups including a Double?

4 – As difficult as it may be for Liverpool people to accept, can anyone possibly prefer life on Merseyside when compared to having your young family living in London?

    Please be honest with yourselves.

  34. The fight is hard and pitiless
The fight is epic, as they say.
I fell. Another takes my place –

  35. torres also needs to realise it was him who was injured for alot of last seasson an him he wouldnt put any effort in after injury dew to saving himself for his country which i expect from any of englands internationals but thats a big factor why liverpool didnt do so well las seasson and rafa was sacked so then the owners werent keen on releasing big funds to a manager whos only jus come to the club, i feel he should want to stay at least till the summer to pay back his sick pay! were not even that far of chelsea at mo and were improving there not.

  36. I must admit, that this hurt me..The Torres move, I mean.
And, I really need to break this to you, but Torres will probably leave, seeing as no club want a player who isn’t proud and dedicated to be in the jersey anymore.

Torres was dedicated, which make me wonder what exactly went wrong.
He was a red, but now he wants to be a blue?
    What happened to:
“I was sad, when I left Atletico. But in my heart I knew, that if I would ever move again, it would be back to Atletico Madrid.
It wasn’t a goodbye, it was a see ya.” – Torres.

I’m just doubting his truce to the red jersey, seeing as he wants to go to Chelsea. It’s betraying, really. They’re our enemies after all.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Fernando Torres, he’s one of my favorite players, but this differently made me see him in another light.
The cat is differently out the bag, so if he has a change of heart, it’ll be hard to regain trust.

But, he proved he was a red.
he did score a lot of goals, so he’ll never walk alone.
    – Thanks for everything Fernando Torres, Liverpool’s number 9.
