Liverpool 2 Stoke 0

It was imperative that we had a good result today in our first match without the talismanic Fernando Torres, and we did that with a fine 2-0 win against Stoke tonight. It could have been even more as Glen Johnson had a bullet header somehow saved by the Stoke goalkeeper after a great cross from Kelly. Kuyt had a pretty good chance himself, but took one touch too many which took him away from what would have been a sure fire scoring opportunity.

The game was stalemate at half time but with us having the edge in terms of chances created and run of the ball. We took the lead a couple of minutes after the break with another fine goal from Raul Meireles, his third goal for the club in four league matches. Well, it took him a while to get going but now he has found the goal I reckon we will see this happen a lot more in the future, I certainly hope so.

Then the game was introduced to Luis Suarez who came on for Aurelio, a sure fine sign that we are a much more attacking side than we were in the earlier part of the season, and he made an immediate impact, getting himself stuck in and getting into some good positions.

At one point he sped through the defence virtually unmarked and rounded the keeper, he then took it to his left a bit before unleashing a shot on the goal. Wilkinson the Stoke defender got back to the goal line and attempted to kick the ball away but only succeeded in hitting the post and the ball crossing the line and into the net.

It might not have gone in if the defender hadn’t intervened, but I think that we can give Suarez the goal, as he did all of the hard work leading up to it. It won’t do him any harm either, it was important for him to get scoring from the get go so that he could prove that he could score goals in the Premier league.

He will certainly give us an extra dimension up front, and I hope to his see his name on the scoresheet as often as possible for the rest of the season, he certainly has the talent to do so.

Fernando who?
