Torres has been the ‘BIG’ (pun completely intended) news these couple of weeks. Will he play wont be play? Will he start or come on as a Sub? If he scores will he celebrate? Amidst all the drama and the hype, the abuse and the shirt burning (Disgraceful), I was wondering what and how Torres felt. Personally I hold no grudge against Torres moving. I actually thank him for that. Here is why.
1. I DO NOT WANT TO BE HERE: We all saw that he was not motivated. The game against Chelsea was probably something akin to showcasing his skill for the benefit of his future employers. The drooped shoulder, the uninterested gait, the hesitation in taking on shots was all apparent. This is not a case of I told you so but his performances kept getting better the nearer we approached January. Since this also coincides with the Return of the King, we shall never know the true motivation in his improved performance. I always had a sneaking doubt if he was just angling for a move on (Hence the ‘I told you so’). A player who does not want to be on the pitch, totally committed to the color he wear, sticks out like a sore thumb and does not improve the mood of the other players any better on and off the pitch. To sum up – thank you Nando for not screwing the other players like you got your head screwed.
2. 50 million pound: need I say more. He was not worth that much on the field for us. But I should thank him for making it possible for LFC to buy more players.
Unlike a lot of people, I understand where Nando is coming from. He is getting on in age and though he has won medals with Spain in Europe and in the World Cup, he is yet to win a medal with any club. (On a tangent was he a jinx?) For him it would have seemed impossible to achieve that at Anfeild. I thought too that it would be at least 2 years before we would compete in Europe, so I don’t blame Nando for thinking that. Little did he or I count on how awesome Kenny was going to be. (Note to self, don’t believe all that the ‘pundits’ say)
That said I do not agree with his choice of Chelsea. They are direct competitors and irrespective of how historically challenged they are, he should not have gone there. But thinking from Nando’s view point they still have an outside chance of winning the league.
Moving on to the game, what a ripper! I am still buzzing from the game yesterday! I laughed my ass off when Torres started to gravitate towards the Liverpool players at the half-time restart. Does that say that irrespective of what he said in the media (surely written by the PR mill), he still has not moved on? Let me see, he still has that uninterested gait, a guilty look on his face (I would like to think) and did not score. Does he not like Chelsea?
But enough of this Torres hangover what has happened has happened. I am looking forward to Luis and Andy ripping apart defenses on the field.
Cheers to a new future for Liverpool under new owners an old player as a manager and the ‘new boys’.
P.S An interesting aside, when the game finished, LFC had 6 defenders on the field (Kelly, Aurelio, Glen, Agger, Carra and Skertel)! Not to mention 1 defensive midfielder in Poulson (Lucas??).
