What your vote is saying.

In a flash poll held last today on this website, an average of 66% of 1250 voters expressed the desire that FSG should opt to redevelop Anfield rather than go for a new stadium at Stanley Park as had been initially planned under the dreaded H&G era.

While I am sure that the poll was conditioned by more of an emotional rather than rationale way of thinking, many of the comments from either train of thought were very linear with each other and both made strong arguments even though most were without substantial evidence of what they were expressing.

The majority of voters took the redevelopment route, and the main argument here was that they wanted the Anfield legacy to continue and felt that loosing this heritage would be too costly from an emotional standpoint, and that a new stadium at Stanley Park would not have the same feel about it. On the other hand those asking to do away with the past and go for a new build feel that this would be the best way forward, both in terms of stadium capacity as well as from a financial perspective.

While those wanting a redeveloped Anfield mostly claimed that an increase to 60,000 in spectator capacity would be more than enough, those wanting a new stadium pushed this limit up to 70,000 even 80,000 capacity. Both sides failed to quote any figures as far as costs are concerned. While the conservative ignored the financial aspect, those with a progressive though claim that a new stadium would be cheaper to construct than a refurbished Anfield, however they failed to come up with any form of figure to substantiate this claim.

I feel that the final obstacle on which option will be taken will be the City of Liverpool. A redevelopment project would be a totally different scenario from what was approved under the H&G regime. FSG need to come up with some very convincing arguments to get the City to approve their plans, should their conclusions point to confirm that redevelopment is the way forward.

  1. If anfield could be developed anywhere close to the mancs old scaffold, then can you imagine the atmosphere the place would generate.we have world class players all over the world commenting on the atmosphere the fans the kop create.they would be banging at the door to play for us.if it possible thou?
    JFT96.

  2. Haha!

Why don’t you ask some people who might actually go to the stadium once in a while.

Not too many of those people on this site by all accounts.

    LMAO!!!

  3. Digger Barnes very amusing. Would have been better if you had something useful instead of being a smart ass. But then some people….

  4. turn the pitch sideways, build a new main stand and annie road, lets go up to 70,000 or even 80,000, and any game we don’t sell out send free tickets to the local schools

  5. re the atmosphere,(kop) it was said it was the old tin roof but it never changed with a new roof, they said it would lose it’s atmosphere when it was made all seated ( remeber the chelea game)- the kop anywhere will never lose it’s atmosphere because the fans are the atmosphere.

  6. Look, Phil Thompson said it best: Arsenal moved from Highbury (capacity 38,000) to The Emirates (60,000 capacity) and make £2.5million more in revenue than us PER MATCH. The Mancs have been redeveloping OT over the last 15 years from a 44,000 capacity into the 76,000 capacity stadium they have today, with future expansion on the way, and currently make approximately £3.5million more in revenue PER MATCH than ourselves.

That being said, if we were to redevelop Anfield, the plans would have to not only have a capacity that will put us in a position where we can catch up to these two clubs, but also be done in a quick, timely manner that will not have an effect our fixture list during the season. Do you believe this can be done? I really don’t see how it can happen.

  7. good decision greg we should look forward to a big capacity than orders than redevelop anfield because if the owner spend money and no adding in capacity that is waste of money we need to build new stadium with 80 to 85 capacity to generate income than orders and very soon we would lift trophy that is the best opposion thanks

  8. ‘In a flash poll held last today’, a ‘rationale way of thinking’, some people might have trouble understanding what you are attempting to write.
    But then some people….
    proof what they write first!
