The difference between a Liverpool fan and a Man United hater

Posted by

Throughout your lifetime, I’m sure you’ve heard mind boggling yet simple questions before, like, “Why did the chicken cross the road?”, “What is the meaning of life?”, and “Why are Ancelotti’s eyebrows a species of their own?”

I think it’s time to tackle one related to all of us Reds. So folks, tell me: what is the difference between a Liverpool fan and a Man United hater?

It seems that the two go hand-in-hand, however, there are actually intricate details separating the two. I’ll state my opinion first. I am first and foremost a Liverpool fan. No, I’m not just a fan. I am a supporter who bleeds Red, just like all of you. Secondly, I am a football fan and as such have the utmost respect for United and their achievements. That’s certainly not to say I like to see them do well. I don’t , of course, but I certainly don’t hate them. Their CLUB has contributed too much to English football to be scorned. Certainly, there are individuals who I would not mind doing a Nigel DeJong on, namely Wayne Rooney, but that is beside the point. “No player is bigger than the club,” as our beloved Kenny Dalglish once said.

This leads me to my next point. Kenny was speaking about OUR club. OUR club always comes first. We should focus on our well-being before Man United’s ill-being. Too many self-declared fans are concerned with bringing our rivals down that they forget about our own team. Look at where we are now. We’re 6th on the table and MAY still have a chance of getting fourth. The chances are looking bleak after our clash against West Ham, but it’s still within the realm of possibility. If Chelsea lose today, and continue losing, we may still have a chance.  Remember, they’ve played fewer games than we have.

If Man United manage to beat win today and win the league, I know I’ll be upset. But it is for the best. I know all of you will be upset, as they’ll be ahead of us with 19 League wins. However, records are made to be broken and we will get it back again one day. After improving from 19th to 6th on the table within months, I’m sure anything is possible. Even fourth. Even a Champions’ League spot for next season. Remember, folks, you’ll never walk alone.

  1. a proper liverpool fan hates man u and dont care about what they have done for english football when you are a kid in liverpool and start bein taken the match it is soon ingrained in you to hate man u thats the way it is it was even more so in 70s i take it you havnt been supporting to long and never went to old trafford before police escorts and seein woman an kids as well as ordinary fans gettin attacked by the scum and police doin nothin but when liverpools mob attacked them the police used to get busy , it was things like this that helped to shape our hate we ars supposed to hate its part of bein a liverpool fan

  2. “records are made to be broken and we will get it back again one day” ww’ll win the league next time…. YNWA

  4. Couldn’t care less about Man Utd or 19 titles! What’s important is the future of our club! 4th is a must if Kenny is going to be able to make us great again! If we get fourth and 3 or 4 top class additions in the summer and the title is a realistic ambition for next season! Finish 5th or below and we won’t be able to attract as good players so we’ll still be a few years away! 1 final point I want Pacheco to be given a goal in left midfield! IMO he is equal to Maxi and Cole and potentially can be better

  5. Okay so after all you’ve just said i still dnt know the difference between the two.. But anyways i dnt think theres any way you can differentiate between the two it doesnt matter what your feelings are towards a rival club at the end of the day you are still a liverpool supporter regardless of what you think of the opposition..

  6. Oh, Alan. It’s not the 70s and 80s any more. Regardless of what went on then, United have been the better team for the last thirty years and that’s a FACT. They’ve done a lot for the Premier League and English football as a whole and for one I find it outdated that somebody could hate them for that. In much the same way as I would wish to be treated by a MU fan, I’ll treat them with the same respect. It doesn’t mean that I love my team any less or want them to succeed in any way.

I have lots of friends who support MU who don’t bang on about “Number 19” or how they’ve been more successful for the last few years and certainly never dig about Hillsborough. I can’t say the same for the City fans that I know. Second team syndrome. They have more in common with Everton than they’d wish to admit.

  7. if it meant us finishing 4th, then let them take number 19. like you said, we’ll get it back! But that doesnt stop me from hating them. Not jelousy. They just trash

  8. I am a Liverpool fan, and I HATE Man Yoo. They are arrogant and this rubs off on all their fans. I don’t know what part of the world you are from, but I am surrounded by Man Yoo fans, even both of my brothers are Manure fans, it’s fair to say that when the teams meet we are not brothers! I don’t know any Liverpool fans that respect United, by default they should be hated.

  9. mr chopper yo0u are missing my point which is fans from them days in the main have a different take on mancs than “newer fans” because of all the shit that went before it has stuck and it will be the same with manc fans i dont care if any one dosnt hate them as much as me an my like i dont consider them any less a fan but people shouldnt be question people that hate them with a passion more than you would know and insinuatin there is somethin wrong to have these views

  10. Thanks,Maria.Sure,i have a certain amount of respect for ‘old whiskey nose’and his achievements, but that’s as far as it goes.I mean how many of us used to respect the school bully? I HATE M*n U*d,but not to the point where i become less of a Liverpool fan or a football fan.I hate them because of their arrogant, mean spirited swagger;winning through cheating and intimidation.I hate them because eighty percent of people who i meet, who claim to have a liking for them, seem to have something wrong with them.As a ‘southern red’ my first Liverpool/M*n U*d game was the 83’Charity shield.Liverpool lost 2-0 and i remember their shit-head fans who were a disgrace before, during and after the game.I was only nine and i’ve never forgotten it..Anyway,all these years later i’m resigned to seeing them win it for a nineteenth time. So,what? They’ve ruined the last twenty years, what’s one more? We’ll knock ‘old whiskey’nose of his perch next year…

  11. The rivalry was largely hyped by the Manchester media and got worse when Ferguson arrived . The man’s hatred for Liverpool is a clinical illness. What exactly have MU done for English football ?? Mr Chopper

  12. Great post. Most fans put the hatred of their rivals before their own beloved club. Pathetic. My love for my club is x infinity and beyond stronger than my hate for my rivals.

    YNWA!

  13. I don’t hate Man Utd. I just passionately wish they’d get relegated…….and not just from the prem league but from the face of the earth. Ok ok I admit it sounds a lot like hate. Oh well fuck em

  14. @Alan

I believe we understand your sentiments. But for a club to be successful, you need new fans.. Imagine if our generation is the last, what is to become to our beloved club? I’m sure there’ll be new fans but the passion we have for LFC compared to them would be unquestionable. It hurts me much when a new fan switched sides and said anything but good of LFC.
LFC is not only about winning but also the values we uphold. And frankly that is the only thing we left to hang on to in the present times.. So unless we have new fans now who we could help shape to be a true red, I won’t be surprised if city or everton has more fans than LFC.

    @the_Fall3N

  15. I hate ManUre with passion and always will. Their arrogance knows no boundaries. If that makes me a lesser Liverpool supporter in some people’s eyes, I couldn’t care less.

  16. there is no right an wrong on this question and it doesnt mean one supporter is bigger, greater, or loves our club more or less. so long as we passionately support our team, that is what a fan needs to do…

on the bright side, whiskey nose is looking for a replacement, seeing as he loves and regards Roy Hodgson so much, i think we needs to start rolling the ball and putting his name out their for the new manu manager…

  17. just because we mancs dosnt mean we wont have new fans !!?? it makes no differnce my kids are all reds friends kids are nieghbours etc thats how you get more fans in the main and i dont know were your from but if you think everton have more fans jesus have a walk around any street or park this summer or on any estate and you will see kids and lads in liverpool stuff out number everton people around 10 to 0ne on any given day and thats no shit its the best poll of who has the most fans ,and go and stand outside the club shops in town and see the trickle in and out of there one shop and the many who frequent our 2 to say everton and more laughable city have more fans ! any way again my point is you can hatew them and support liverpool it dosnt make any difference iv been supportin 40 odd years i dont need anyone suggestin how i should go about it i hate them and everythin about them i respect nothing about them and you will get most of there proper fans thinkin the same way as me towards us that is the reality

  18. when reading this article you have to bear in mind that is wasn’t written by a fan residing in England, it is therefore difficult for a foreigner to appreciate the immense rivalry and hate that Liverpool & Manure fans have for each other, if you are not part of it then it’s difficult to appreciate how we feel, I think it is safe to assume that 99% Liverpool fans in England hate Utd. My cousin is a season ticket holder at old trafford and he hates Liverpool as much as we hate them!

  19. Intelligent article, well written and a proper understanding of competition and respect. Without records people have nothing to aim for, with a new record in place in we can chase it and try to better it. Onwards, upwards the goals of the club before individual aims LFC! YNWA

  20. I dont live in england but get over at least once a year, the scum are the scum manure whatever, I dont like them I have good friends who are ushited fans but I respect what they have done much like our record in the 80’s my earliest memory of liverpool.

  21. just because we hate mancs i ment above any way am done with this exept to say we can all support the red men equaly wether we hate with a passion and respect nothin (me) or think what you will its all irellevent when your watchin lfc play .i do respect all reds tho scouse wools or from foriegn fields been interesting people y.n.w.a

  22. Hilarious. But you reds are an ass for it. Good luck. I sure love kenny but i dont want the reds to overshadow the devils.

  23. This just tipifies the difference between Liverpool born and bred and someone from outside the city who wants to be part of the Liverpool family
How you can respect a set of supporters who spend most of there time calling you a Muderer and make gestures regarding Hillbourgh is beyond me I hate United and everyone assosiated with the club maybe hate is to strong a word lets just say i have no time for them it would take far to long and be more of a social history lesson to explain the resons for it but it is something endemic within both clubs sets of supporters and will always be so its easy to talk the talk i bleed red and YNWA its another to live it there is a difference its a bit like outside the window looking in wanting to be sitting by the nice cosy fire surrounded by your family those inside know all about United those outside just see them as another team in the English Prem with a good record guess which side you fall into

  24. Well. It’s very hard to be a Liverpool fan who tries his best to respect MU…when all the time they try to get under our skins for our league under achievements for the last 20 years. So, universally i think we pool fans don’t really hate the club but the ARROGANT ATTITUDE of their fans (not their fans per se). I have many relatives and friends who are manure fanatical supporters. We get along well in all things except for football. When we lost to WHU, they had a field day of mocking and being sarcastic towards us. When MU lost to Chelsea today, all went quiet. I think the single and biggest difference between LFC and MU supporters…humility. we definitely have more of that as proven by the writer of this article.

  25. So, what do you think of Stevie G’s pass to Drogba denied United winning their 19th last season?

  26. @Xile…It’s worse than you think over here in ‘old Blighty.’99% of Liverpool fans for sure but there is also the factor regarding about 80% of FOOTBALL SUPPORTERS who hate M*n U*d!That’s another thing that sets us above M*n U*d:the Liverpool teams of the 70’s and 80’s were not Universally hated like M*n U*d or the Don Revie Leeds side. The Liverpool sides won in grace and style:Leeds and now U*d were and are ugly thugs who cheat and play the game with little charm.English people don’t really like cheats and bullies and, once upon a time, were not inclined to suffer them gladly..MAHALO
