We Woz Robbed

West Ham 3 Liverpool 1 27th February 2011

This was a game that we really shouldn’t have lost, indeed never really looked like losing for the majority of it either, but we ended up losing it by quite some margin. As far as I can see West Ham got lucky on three occasions and each of them hit the back of the net.

Scott Parker’s goal surprised me the most as it looked as though he toe poked it but it went past Reina with consummate ease. I don’t even think that Pepe thought that there was much put on the shot which is why he didn’t move quicker to save it. I certainly didn’t expect to see it slide in.

The second goal that they scored seemed to come from nowhere as well and we really should have had it covered but there was a momentary lapse in conversation, Ba was unmarked at the far post, and the ball hit the back of the net for a second time.

Glen Johnson finally hit the back of the net for us in the 84th minute, but it was not for the want of trying, we had quite a number of shots but Robert Green had a good game and did a couple of top class saves, but he wasn’t able to stop Johnson’s shot.

The third goal that West Ham scored we could be said to have been at fault before as Martin Skrtel lost the ball to Carlton Cole who then ran rings around our defence and put the match well and truly beyond us with only a few minutes to go. Cole had only come on a few minutes previously and it may well have been his first touch of the game that took the ball from Skrtel but he did take the goal well, so there can’t be too many arguments on this one.

West Ham did not play like they were languishing at the bottom of the table but I still think that the end result was rather unfair on the performance that we gave.

In the end what West Ham did was stop us from playing to the best of our ability. Suarez was often ineffective in the game, but this was more down to West Ham’s defending that to a lack of effort on the Uruguayan’s part. However, he did manage to show flashes of brilliance on the odd occasion that he managed to lose his marker.

Sadly though in the end it doesn’t matter how much effort we put in during the game because the end result will always read as 3-1 to West Ham, but that doesn’t even begin to tell the whole story of the match.

  1. I dont think we were robbed at all! our performance on sunday didn’t deserve one point, let alone three! whether or not a shot looks as if its going to go wide, the keeper still makes an attempt to save it, you don’t take the risk! poor defending and poor goalkeeping resulted in 3 goals being conceded, and liverpool didn’t look as if they would score until the last 15 mins! West Ham were worthy of their victory.

  2. I hope you’re being funny because otherwise you’re doing West Ham a great disservice by labeling their goals as lucky. That first goal was just pure class and I don’t put too much blame on Reina for it.

Second was a genuine attack with Ba not being picked up on his run. ‘Lucky’ would be if he’d closed his eyes, tripped and managed to lob the keeper with his backside.

The third was a breakaway, a pathetic display of strength from Skrtel and then absolutely abysmal defending from Reina who should have managed a save at his near post.

Yes, West Ham stopped us from playing well. Funny but I thought that was the goal of most teams when they take to the football field?

  3. Nice article, for a 10 year old
Did you even watch the game? We deserved the 3-1 loss, if not more
Don’t quit your day job, unless your already writing for the News of The World

  4. What a plank! Do u think by disrespecting west ham & belittling there performance your doing any1 any favours? We was awful, shocking infact half our players didn’t turn up gerrard, reina, sketal 2 name a few but I also know these things happen u can’t win every game but 2 scoop as low 2 say they were lucky puts serious question marks on ur ability to comment on matters regarding Liverpool fc.my friend I know u mean well but not helping any1 here with that. In kenny we trust Y.N.W.A
    question marks on ur ability

  5. While i was watching the game i said to myself that West was a better team Liverpool.

During the first half Suarez was isolated and he was unable to help his team.

Gerrard is a good player but did not play well at all.

West bossed Liverpool and they dominated the game.

Liverpool need a left back and a world class central defender.

West played a superb game and we should congratulate them from my point of view.

    Uruguayan.

  6. While i was watching the game i said to myself that West was a better team than Liverpool.

  7. We were garbage and West Ham good value for their win .As for Reina’s performance I thought he’d been meeting up with a thai betting syndicate

  8. yeah Adam you must be taking the p**s. We should have had a penalty, 50/50 another one but in the end we got what we deserved – nothing. One thing for sure, if the mancs think thats the performance they’ll see from us on Sunday they’re due a big suprise

  9. Before the game I had a gut feeling that the result wasn’t going to be as positive as everyone expected. Under Kenny Liverpool have been winning games but there have been occasions when we have ridden our luck and the final result has probably outshone the performance. Most thought West Ham, rock bottom of the Prem would roll over for the mighty reds, I wonder if some of the players even thought that, hence the lack lustre display.

For most of the game, most of the players looked off the pace and disjointed, Stevie certainly looked off the boil, but that can be expected after coming back from a lengthy injury. Suarez was largely ineffective until the 2nd half when he sprang into life and created the best chances and the goal for Johnson. I also thought it was unfair that Liverpool had to play a European Tie on Thursday evening, then expected to play in London on Sunday Lunch-time, I’m sure a Monday/Tuesday night fixture would have been more suitable.

Anyway, Manure on Sunday. I’m sure we will see a different kind of performance and hopefully 3 points for the Red Men while inflicting a major dent in Manure’s title ambitions!

  10. Ok I will admit that this article is a bit on the biased side, but I still think that we should have at least stopped the first two goals going in.

Carlton Cole’s goal was probably worthy of a win it its own right, but when it comes to LFC I always think that we should win, no matter how badly we played.
