Summer Transfer Targets

By Umar Khurrum

After the acquisitions of Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll in the January transfer window, our spirits were suddenly lifted and our hopes of spending big in the summer were also given a huge boost. Although our net spend was only about 2 million, we can expect to have a summer full of changes. Here are some of the targets which I think we should acquire in the summer.

Fabio Coentrao (Benfica)
Although I would go with Leighton Baines any day, the possibility of acquiring him from from fierce rivals Everton is bleak. So I opt for Portuguese left back Fabio Coentrao who also plays for Portuguese giants Benfica. We all saw glimpses of his class during the World Cup and since then he has also stated that he loves Liverpool, so the the possibility of him coming to Anfield is highly likely.

Charlie Adam (Blackpool)
So nearly a Liverpool player in January, Charlie Adam could not complete his move to Anfield. Interests from the likes of Manchester Utd and Tottenham just tell us how good a player he is. At the moment he is doing wonders with Blackpool and has played a huge role in their highly impressive season so far. Since the departure of Xabi Alonso, Liverpool have lacked the creativity in midfield and the Tangerines skipper could provide just that.

Ashley Young (Aston Villa)
We all know about Ashley Young, he is pure class. He has the speed to trouble defenses, really good at set pieces and can provide the crosses needed by the big man upfront Andy Carroll. In addition to that he can score goals and has the Premier League experience to be an instant hit with the Kop. We really need to sign him possibly with a bit of help from a former Red (Gerard Houllier)

Alexis Sanchez (Udinese)
We all know what we lack and that is proper wingers with pace. Alexis Sanchez at 22 fits the bill. Pace, skill, trickery and a good crossing ability, the lad could prove to be a valuable addition to the squad. Sanchez currently plays as a striker for his club but can play at right wing as well.
