Since Kenny Dalglish returned as manager, Liverpool has been transformed into a club on the rise, but I feel they are still a few players short from being a team that will challenge for major honours such as the Premier League Title, and the Champion’s League.
Let’s first take a look at what positions the club needs to strengthen in. In my opinion, they need to buy a couple of wingers, a center back and a left back. If there’s any money left over, I’d also say that they need a creative central midfielder in the Xabi Alonso mold, or maybe even recall Alberto Aquilani from Juventus at the end of the season!
Now that Liverpool have the fantastic Luiz Suarez and Andy Carroll upfront – a player that is over 6 foot 5 inches tall and an absolute powerhouse and nightmare for defenders, it’s imperative that they buy two decent wingers, so they can supply Carroll with crosses that he can put away.
In terms of buying a center back, there are a very few potential targets that I feel would be good quality signings. Ryan Shawcross from Stoke City, Gary Cahill from Bolton Wanderers and Micah Richards from Manchester City are all English, meaning they would qualify for the UEFA Home Grown player rules.
Fabio Coentrao of Benfica would be my first choice for a left back spot. He’s young, quick and likes to attack, very much like John Arne Riise, and would be a valuable asset.
Charlie Adam of Blackpool is still a target for the club, but with competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United amongst others, he could end up costing around £20m, as Blackpool would want to get as much as possible for him, whether they stay up or not.

Its nice to see a few comment’s mention Hazard, he’s a excellent player, Ashley Young would be a nice addition but I do think Gary Cahill is the ‘must’ buy. Obviously either Arda Turan or Charlie Adam, not both.
I’m not a huge fan of discussing ‘maybe’ transfers though, we’ll be linked with plenty of players over the next 4 months.
Also, give Danny Wilson more chance to play.
We definitely need some defenders. I like Johnson at LB so a backup who can operate on both flanks would be ideal… like Taiwo of Marseille. Id love to have Gary Cahill or a cheaper yet just as good Sahko (PSG). Wingers are what we desperately need. Young’s contracts up soon so hell be relatively cheap. Him or Dzsusak for the left and Hazard on the right…..but i have to be honest i dont think we can get him. Adam is a given really and he definately wont cost 20mil as he will only have a year left on his contract.
i dont actually think we need to buy much more.
i would like to see kenny play a 4-3-3 with using suarez as a wide forward similar to pedro and messi for barcelona, all i think we need is some back up for carroll, a left sided forward to operate on the opposite side to suarez but only if they are world class as i would not be dissapointed if kuty or maxi filled that role,
bring back insua for left back when aurellio is not fit (30 games a season) and bring aquilani back to add depth to a magnificent midfield of lucas miereles and gerrard,
no new centre backs needed with wilson, ayala, and even kelly (he was a centre back before he was a full back) that can fill that position when our main 4 are injured.
also a good YOUNG goalkeeper to stop the merry-go-round of goalkeepers at LFC over the past few years.

I think strengthening down the left MUST be a priority.
Whilst Coentrao is no doubt good, and the Portugese seem to play well over here, I’d be more tempted to go for someone currently playing in the EPL.
It’s contraversial but I’d love to see Baines in a Liverpool top. Despite erroneous press reports, the boy is a Red and he’s been one of the most creative players in the league this season.
For left wing, I agree with the majority here – Ashley Young.
Whomever we bring in needs to know one thing above all – What it means to play for Liverpool. That’s what made Suarez a cracking signing; he understands and respects the club.
Wouldn’t mind seeing a young right winger to come in as Kuyt isn’t getting any younger and seems to be moving back up the pitch under Kenny. Someone like Torje at Bucharest, Ninis at Panathanikos or take a chance on Alexis Sanchez/Elia.

I don’t think they will spend like January, but if they did Hazard, Young, Defour and Fábio Coentrão would fit the bill as big name signings. I would take Xabi Alonso back in a heart beat too. However Charlie Adam is a far more realistic target and could do a very good job in a red shirt.
I just hope we are not forced into looking for goalkeeper if Pepe leaves.
Fabio Coentrao (20mil) We need a good quality left back who can attack especially if our left midfielder is right footed and cuts in all the time. Coentrao can also play LM if we want an out and out winger. Versatile, young and in my opinion, with similar attributes to Gareth Bale.
Yann M’Vila (12mil) Lucas is doing well but he is very light weight and on more than one occasion has been knocked off the ball. M’Vila is 6ft, strong and can play the ball too.
Charlie Adam (8mil) He was one more year left on his contract so will be available for a reasonable price. At the moment, none of our midfielders dictate the pace of a game enough, in the way Alonso did. Yes, this includes Gerrard (whose positioning from CM can be awful sometimes) and Meireles who is more box to box. Adam can distribute the ball long and short and in games where we want to dominate possession, he’d be vital.
Eden Hazard (20mil) Quick, agile, versatile, young. Reminds me of Aaron Lennon with a final ball.
I’d also let Aurelio go on a free, and sign Oscar Wendt on a free. He’s around 25 I think, strong, good defensively but also gets up and down the line
Coentroa would be back nice but i can see tiawo or wendt coming as they’re free agents in the summer. Gary cahill would be .nice but either agger or skirt would leave to fund the purchase of cahill.Charlie Adam to replace poulsen please. Jovanovic and Cole can pack their bags and show turan and young to their seats. With lukaku up front to replace ngog.

Central Defenders: Carragher is getting old, Kyrgiakos is also old and not good enough. Skrtel is to inconsistant. Agger is pretty much the only really good CD we have atm. Maybe we need to add someone like Gary Cahill here!
Left Defender: Contraue (or however you spell it) should be added. And Aurelio kept as a backup. Johnson can also play the role of left defender.
Left Midfield: We have nothing….I dont think maxi has what it takes at the level we want to be at. We should add someone with a few tricks and pace here. Hazard, Young, A.Johnson, N’Zogbia would all fit the bill. Would prefer johnson or hazard.
Central Midfield: We got it covered, wouldn’t mind adding Charlie Adam tho’
Right Midfield: Same as left midfield here, kuyt doesnt do the job of a winger. Gervinho would be another option here.
Forwards: Carroll and Suarez should at their price be given starters. We need to find one good backup striker tho’. N’gog isn’t our man here.
Youngsters: We have a great academy. And we should be looking to promote some of the players and give them a few starts in the league cup. Ex, Coady, Sterling, Suso w.o

LB i would have taiwo as he’s on a free and would increase squad strength..but to start in that position i’d prefer coentrao..just not at 20 odd million. I reckon enrique or izaguirre would be better value for us.
At CB i’d play daniel ayala or Wilson..They probably the only members of the reserve ranks that I would feel could come in and be ready to play. Plus it means that we’ve saved millions of pounds that can go towards other areas.

Marek Hamsik would fit in perfectly through the middle with Giovinco and shawcross excellent additions. Maybe a strong German winger like Toni Kroos or Stevan Jovetic.

In all honesty, I don’t think Liverpool need that much to boost itself. We have a good players, we just need to get rid of some useless players like ngog, rodriguez, poulsen, joe cole. LFC just need a very strong solid bench.

CB: Scott Dann – Liverpool boy, will know what it means to put on that shirt. I see him backing up in the same role Soto has after we sell Soto this summer.
LB: Fabio Coentrao – I really don’t know how good he is defensively, I wouldn’t want the same problems as we had with Glen Johnson at the start of the season. Though if he fails at LB, I see him performing very well as a LM/LW (his original position). He’d be like Gareth Bale, but a different style of play. Solves our wing position too because we can always push him up higher and have Aurelio (if fit) play behind him. Another LB to back up Coentrao would be very important if we get him.
CM: Charlie Adam – I’d pay 12M GBP at most. Anything more and I’m pretty sure there are better options out there on the continent. Ever Banega comes to mind.

We don’t need to spend massive amounts of money as we have young talented players already at the club like the obvious sterling, suso, coady and Robinson who I believe if were at others clubs they would have played first team football already, we’ve stopped bringing our younger players in (with exception of Kelly) and started buying players looking at the end of their carrers, why didn’t we give amoo or ince a chance when we got maxi. I honestly believe hodgson would have been given more of a chance if instead of buying people like konchesky and poulsen he gave the chance to our youngers players like Pacheco and Darby. Our younger teams have much more talent and skill than the first team it’s time we start playing them before they realise and leave!

Those who are suggesting N’Zogbia can, I think, forget it. He and Carroll had a fierce training ground bust up (one of Carroll’s many Newcastle misdemeanors)and N’Zogbia left the club less than two weeks later coz The Barcodes didn’t punish Carroll for it. There’s bad blood between them. Anything’s possible, I suppose, but I don’t see N’Zogbia wanting to join a team with Andy Carroll again.
before we strengthen any area, we need first to sell up deadwoods..such as poulsen,jovanovic,konchesky,joe cole,maxi,aquilani. then we can buy players neccesary for our team challenging titles next season..the players we need to buy are(realistically):-
