I want to ride my bicycle

As the Tour-De-France now enters it’s fifth stage I couldn’t help but remember the pictures of the Reds riding their Bikes while on training in the Swiss Alps.

For the last two years we have seen both Liverpool F.C. managers (first Rafa Benitez and then Roy Hodgson) leading the peloton as together with the players they meandered through the Swiss countryside. Believe it or not I have had some fellow Liverpool F.C. fans asking me if the players will be riding these bikes in Switzerland this year.

Cycling is probably one of the best workout routines there is, at Melwood I am sure that they have many exercise bikes that the players use on a regular basis to help tone the hamstring muscles and also offer a full aerobic routine. This great sport of cycling (which is now approaching it’s 200th anniversary) can be also a lot of fun for all ages and Kids Bikes are probably as popular as the adult ones. Of course bikes come in all shapes and sizes and there is always one to fit any budget.

I will be honest with you and I was concerned when I saw the pictures (from the last couple of years) of the players riding the bikes without helmets and it did make me nervous knowing our bad luck with injuries. However I am sure that Roy (pictured above) would have messed up his hairdo if he had worn a helmet. Also I assume that every precaution was taken to prevent the players from going too fast on the bikes and risk getting injured. Funny enough I don’t recall seeing any pictures of players who are usually injury prone riding bikes :-)

So the question is will Steve Clarke, Kevin Keen and King Kenny ride Raleigh Bikes in Switzerland, will they wear a helmet? Roy, Rafa and Sammy Lee didn’t.
