Sad news today as former Red Neil Mellor announced that he was retiring from football on medical advice at the age of 29.
Neil tweeted the following.
It’s a very sad day for me and my family. On medical advice I have decided to retire from professional football.I am devastated
I am devastated to have to come to this decision. I have played for some fantastic clubs in my career and grateful for some special memories
Of course we will always remember Neil’s goal in front of the Kop against Arsenal on 28 November 2004 and also for his assist to Stevie’s famous goal against Olympiakos.
