Reds Striker Targets Evaluated UPDATE: Reds Hunt For Huntelaar Over?

With the Reds likely to target a striker in January, I recently wrote an article assessing the reported targets, one of whom was Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

However, the move seems to be unlikely after the Schalke and Holland star refuted the rumours, expressing his intention to remain at Schalke until the end of the season at the least, with his contract expiring in the summer.

Huntelaar said “I am continuing at Schalke until the end of the season in any case”, when asked about his future by German media.

He admitted to being aware of Liverpool’s interest, among other sides, adding “I heard lots of things”, but claimed “I have had no contact with any club.”

With Schalke loathe to let him go at the end of the season for free, this may not be the final word in the chase for Huntelaar, but assuming the Dutchman is true to his word, who would those of you who would have liked to have seen Huntelaar arrive at Anfield bring in instead? Demba Ba? Theo Walcott? Jackson Martinez? Or one of the other reported targets? Please leave your comments below.

  1. Go for Wilfried Bony and Aubameyang!
i wouldnt try to sign jackson martinez, we had the chance to sign him at KK time for 4m and we didnt do it, so i wouldnt buy him for 15m .. <.<

  2. An unpopular, but possibly exciting option would be to opt for Theo Walcott.
The guy is a born striker. Nearly every one of his goals scored have been from inside the box.

When being played on the wing (the vast majority of the time) Walcott has to think too much. I admit, he is not the best at beating one or two players, but when he’s the last man, 1 on 1 and doesn’t have time to over-think, he slots the ball home.

A born striker, being played out of position.

  3. Huntelaar might want to see out his contract but will Schalke allow him to leave on a free at the end of the season when they could sell him in January for £10 million?

  4. Jackson Martinez has now proven himself in Portugal,we didn’t bid for him, though we saw his potential,to slow then so step in now before another premier team buys him, especially now huntelaar states he won’t move in January

  5. I am a Liverpool fan what i really do not like is the way referees are treating matches in England. They single handedly decides matches by winning it for teams they like. E.g. Liverpool vs man united, chelsea vs man united.why would referee be partial in supporting a particular team.

  6. Its obvios that RVP has found his match in holland with KJH(klaas jan huntelaar).I think his(RVP) reading news everyday wishing his teamate does’nt become his rivalry, because we know he will always come second.liverpool have to go all out nomatter the cost.we have never had better oposition than man.united.So I dnt want second best, cause we are still LIVERPOOL nomatter what.As soon as KJH put his liverpool shirt on Man.united, alex ferguson and his best stiker will be scared. If KJH and RVP are feast rivals, who do u think will be holland first choice striker?and that is something to look forward 2 next season with KJH upfront,el pastolero on the left and THEO WILCOT on the right. Then it won’t be long till no club ones to enter shankly gates without knowing they’re will be secoond best.

  7. Good point J75J and bill, there could definitely be more to it, with Schalke loathe to let him go for free. I’ll update the article.

  8. Most def if BR and FSG are worth their salt, its time to stop complaining about KK’s failures. They must get JK Huntelaar in January. If he is better that RVP and RVP cost manu how much? 29mil then BR and FSG must get Huntelaar for 10-15 or higher. Forget about KK’s expenditures. BR must be his own man and musnt live in the shadow of KK’s failures, coz dwelling on KK’s shortcomings can easily become BR and FSG’ failure as well. Food for thought…

  9. Its like you read my thoughts! You appear to understand a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you simply can do with some percent to pressure the message house a little bit, but other than that, this is fantastic blog. A great read. I’ll certainly be back.
