I am trying to keep up with all the new signings, Brendan Rodgers is adamant to conclude all the summer dealings early and not be playing any last minute Russian Roulette which has cost us in the past.
The club has been so busy that no player has yet been officially presented to the media and no squad numbers have been assigned yet.
So where are we so far?
Kolo Toure : The former Arsenal and Manchester City defender came on a free to fill in the defence leadership void left by Jamie Carragher’s retirement.
Luis Alberto : The 20 year old Spanish attacking midfielder was signed from Sevilla.
Iago Aspas : The striker was signed from Celta Vigo.
Andy Carroll : Has officially signed for West Ham.
Jamie Carragher : As you all know has retired.
Peter Gulacsi : The young stopper has joined Salzburg.
Danny Wilson : The young defender’s contract ended and was going to join Hearts on a free, however the club is in financial disarray and his future is uncertain however it will not be at Liverpool.
Tyrell Belford and James Edward Stephens were two other youngsters released.
Others that could happen during this window:
Simon Mignolet : A deal for the Belgian International Keeper could be imminent.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan : His name keeps popping up and we were being strongly linked to him.
Luis Suarez : Of course we all know the saga however there hasn’t been an official request for his transfer, if he is leaving he should do it ASAP and not wait until the end of August.
Of course there are other names linked in and out so we are sure not done yet.
So what does this mean for Liverpool?
We do have an advantage this time, we have a manager that is already settled in and don’t have to go through that whole learning curve again. Of the clubs that finished above us last season, only Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur will start the 2013-14 season with the same manager that they had last season. Some might argue that Jose Mourinho back at Chelsea should be an easy transition, I agree with that. I think he will continue where he left off, I believe that Chelsea have the best odds of winning the League. Manchester United are a big unknown, did Fergie leave Moyes his hair dryer? City have the money and if Pellegrini settles in the Premier League fast than they might challenge Chelsea.
However the various bookies disagree with me regarding who will win the league, Au Free Bets lists many of them and most of them are showing Manchester United winning the league with Manchester City runners up and Chelsea 3rd. Liverpool are currently favoured to finish 5th.
To challenge for 4th we need to surpass Spurs and Arsenal, I think we can surpass Spurs however Wenger will be tougher nut to crack. So I guess I agree with the bookies as regard to us finishing 5th although I really want us to finish in 4th and above.
