How much can Liverpool improve this season?

So far Liverpool have been one of the best teams in the Premier League this season, with three victories all by the same margin, of one to zero.

There is no doubt that Liverpool have improved over the past nine months, with a far better record than the nine months before that, as well as making really good signings to help the squad with quality depth, while also improving the starting eleven as well. Where can this improvement take us into the next nine months by the time when the Premiership ends. Who else will have improved over the next nine months. While the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea making mega buys and improving their already excellent teams, the two of them are probably going to be the two front-runners going at it for the title.

The question becomes who is going to get the third and fourth places in the league table? You have Manchester United who are the current champions, and they have only made one significant signing in Marouane Fellaini for almost five million more than his buyout cause. And with the loss of one of the best managers of all time, in all sport, they are looking at their weakest right now and could possibly slip out of that top four although unlikely because of the quality of the squad that Sir Alex had already put together.

Next there is Arsenal who after making no significant signings, and losing their first game at home to Aston Villa three to one, it seemed as though they were bound to fail and that Mr. Wenger was maybe getting ready to leave North London, But Arsenal found their stride by making the group stages of the Champions League, beating their cross town rivals Tottenham, and capturing one of the very best players in the world in Mesut Ozil on deadline day. Arsenal still have lots of questions to be answered, but with a front line of Ozil, Cazorla, Wallcot, and Giroud, they could be very good this year and still challenge for the top four.

Lastly there is Tottenham who have made a number of good signings this summer  but lost the worlds most expensive player, Gareth Bale, to Real Madrid. To lessen the blow of losing bale Spurs have brought in the likes of Roberto Soldado from Valencia, Erik Lamela from Roma, and Christian Erickson from Ajax to name the best of their summer bounty. Yet they still looked somewhat weak against Arsenal last weekend, they didn’t look like a team, they looked like a bunch of good players with the same shirt on, that don’t have a great player leading them and scoring clutch goals anymore , Liverpool have Luis Suarez, Arsenal have Mesut Ozil now, Man United have Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney, and Spurs are lacking a star as well as needing time to gel together.

This leaves Liverpool who have not made the top four since the 2008-2009 season when they finished in second place behind Manchester United. Now with a new manager with a vision and a plan to bring the football club back to glory, Liverpool have had a year to gel and to become a unit, who maybe man for man aren’t as good as other teams above them but if they can keep playing how they have been playing with solid defence, creative attack and an in form Lucas and Steven Gerrard connecting the two, there is no telling what they can achieve. If they are to achieve anything significant this year, it’s the year to do it . Arsenal are coming to the end of an era and are injured and thin at the back, Tottenham need time to gel their talent and to overcome the loss of Gareth Bale, Manchester United don’t have Sir Alex leading them anymore and they are on a rough start to a new era with a new manager who right now is being questioned if he was the right man for the job. So Liverpool must take advantage of the other teams and their separate rebuilding periods. With a exciting Defensive rotation including one of the best center backs in the league in Daniel Agger, and one potentially to be one of the best in the league as well, Mamdou Sakho. With backups capable of starting in other squads as well as ours, Kolo Toure and Martin Skrtel, our defense is looking pretty good. We also have one of the most creative, potent attacks in the country with Suarez, Sturridge, Coutinho, Moses, Aspas, Henderson, and youngsters such as Raheem Sterling and Jordan Ibe to pitch in and learn from the big boys.

Liverpool have rebuilt and rebuilt for the past four or five years and now it is seemingly all coming together for a push back up to the top, and come the end of the season who knows, we could be in third, we could be in fourth, we could stay in seventh. Realistically I believe it will be a year of big improvement since last year and the three years before that as well, with a European spot likely, whether it’s in the Champions League or the Europa League I’m not quite Sure but with the luck on our side, I’m hopeful it will be the prestigious Champions League where Liverpool belong, and we will continue our rise under Brendan Rodgers back to Prominence once again.
