The search for a right-back

Just when we thought that Liverpool managed to solve the central defence issues, we are rocked again with another injury. As you all know, Glen Johnson was injured in the game against Manchester United. He went in for the challenge on Evra and both players went down on the ground awkwardly. Glen was worse off and he had to limp off shortly afterwards.

After Johnson had the foot scanned it was revealed that the injury was  worse than it was originally thought, he had sustained an ankle injury. It is now feared that he could be out for ten weeks as these kind of injuries take a long time to heal.

So who could Liverpool call up to fill the right-back position? Will Brendan Rodgers change his defence tactics? Will he continue to utilise 4-2-3-1 or will he favour a 3-5-2 system?

Brendan does not have the luxury of another experienced right-back to immediately fill in the slot, however there are two young promising defenders who can easily and comfortably fill that position. First choice is Andre Wisdom who came on to replace Johnson during the Manchester United game. Second choice would be Martin Kelly who has been out injured for ten months and has only recently returned back to training with the squad.

And of course there are the other defenders like Martin Skrtel, Kolo Toure, Tiago Ilori, and Mamadou Sakho who could also feature in the right-back position.

My feeling is that Rodgers would pick Wisdom for that position, It would also be good time for Wisdom to step up and improve his game.

In the meantime I am sure all Liverpool fans will certainly wish Johnson a speedy recovery.
