Here we go again.
Typically, as a Liverpool fan, that’s not something positive. This season seems to be different, however. Seven games played, five won. Sixteen points – above us only sky. Today, I want to talk about the return of Uruguayan superstar Luis Suarez and Liverpool’s personal vendetta with second halves.
Today’s game against Crystal Palace ended, as you all know, 3-1 with Liverpool being miles ahead of a consistently sloppy, but occasionally creative, Palace side. On the score sheet there were no news, really. Suarez, Sturridge and Gerrard (penalty). I am personally very happy to see that the partnership Suarez/Sturrdige is turning out so well, especially after being somewhat problematic last season, and also after seeing Sturridge playing so well alone on top. Frankly, I was a bit worried about Suarez’ comeback but unsurpringsingly, he proved me wrong and made me realize once more why he is Premier League’s, if not the world’s, most interesting player (the lad scored a goal lying down for Christ’s sake!). “Excited” is too weak of a word to describe my desire to see Suarez, Sturridge and Coutinho, who after all is the spider in the net that is Liverpool, in action together. It’s bound to be just be magical.
However, things aren’t all bright in Merseyside. Once more, the red defence proved to be a bit clumsy at times and if it wouldn’t have been for yet another excellent performance by Mignolet this game could’ve turned out to be more exciting than it was. Sakho’s reaction after almost scoring an own goal says it all. Rather than worried he seemed to be wondering what just happened. Obviously, this isn’t too positive for a defender. Liverpool also proved to have difficulties scoring in the second 45. If this a case of lacking physique in the team, or something else I do not know, but it is an issue that has to be resolved if success is to be continous throughout the season. These are the two primary issues that need attention, because Liverpool as a team looks above and beyond this season.
But then again, “here we are with problems at the top of the league”…
