Liverpool Can Keep The Pressure On Chelsea

Reds within touching distance of a surprise title.
This weekend’s victory over Cardiff was, it would be fair to say, expected, though credit must go to the Welsh side for the three goals they managed to bag, against any other side that probably would have guaranteed them a much needed victory.
However, it wasn’t to be as the Liverpool side they faced sought to confirm themselves as genuine title contenders.
With a game in hand on current leaders Chelsea, the pressure will be on the Blues to maintain their fragile four point lead, and though a 6-0 win over Arsenal will do wonders for their confidence, last week’s slip up at Aston Villa proved that they are not untouchable.
The Reds still have encounters against Chelsea and third placed Manchester City to come, where they can prove that if you want a job doing right then you have to do it yourself rather than count on other teams to do your dirty work for you, and the form of the terrible twosome up front will be in need more than ever.
It won’t be long before people begin to run out of superlatives for Suarez and Sturridge, as their partnership now borders on the telepathic (Sturridge’s back heel to find Suarez for Liverpool’s fourth is only a testament to that).
The pair combined again for the fifth before Suarez cleverly used to surging run of the England international to confuse David Marshall only to slip the ball past him and wrap up a good afternoon’s work.
However, thanks to a brace from centre-back Martin Skrtel, it will be warming to know that they have goals coming in from all positions on a regular basis. The midfield is more than capable of adding a few more to their own tally too.
Manchester City will remain a threat, at least until the two sides can meet and duke it out on April 13th. Pellegrini’s men still have three games in hand over Chelsea and are themselves only six points adrift, but they have been known to capitulate on the road, and have their own weaknesses at the back that can be exploited rather easily.
It’s in Liverpool’s hands now, they have a relatively kind run in from now until the end of the season, those two tricky fixtures aside, and providing they don’t allow themselves much room for daydreaming, then there should be no reason why they don’t have their hands on that coveted Premier League title come May.
