Reports in Italy claim that the 21-year-old could be the man to pressure current Reds number one, Simon Mignolet, who has struggled to impress manager Brendan Rodgers with a series of inconsistent performances.

Current number two Brad Jones is not thought off as a serious contender to his Belgian teammate, leading to Liverpool investigating possible targets, including Valdes – who now looks set to join Manchester United.

Perin is considered one of the best young keepers in Europe and was part of Cesare Prandelli’s 2014 World Cup squad, though is still to win a first senior Italian national team cap.

The 21 year old has been impressive between the sticks this term, conceding just eight goals in nine Serie A appearances this term. In contrast, Mignolet has kept just two clean sheets in 13 appearances in all competitions this season.
