Raheem Sterling contract: Liverpool add £60m release clause…

Liverpool are preparing to insert a £60m buy-out clause into Raheem Sterling’s new contract to fend off interest from Real Madrid, and several other European giants.

According to the Daily Star, the 19-year-old is poised to sign a lucrative new five-year deal with the Reds after months of negotiations, which will include a bumper wage packet of £100,000 a week.

Anfield bosses will also write in a hefty release clause to keep Europe’s biggest clubs at bay, as the club seeks to avoid a repeat of the scenario that allowed Arsenal to make a £40,000,001 offer for Luis Suarez in 2013.

Real Madrid have shown strong interest in the England international, who has three years left on his current deal, and believe his £30,000-a-week wages do not fit his growing reputation.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to avoid losing another star player after Suarez’s departure to Barcelona in a £75m deal over the summer, and is well aware that the teenager has the ability to be a cornerstone of his team for the next decade.

The 19-year-old has made 87 appearances for the club in all competitions since his debut in 2012, scoring 15 times. He has also established himself as a key member of the England squad this year, winning ten caps to add to his first appearance two years earlier.
