Skipper looks set for Anfield stay…

Liverpool will sit down with Steven Gerrard this week to thrash out terms on a contract extension, the Express reports.

Our 34-year-old captain’s current deal expires at the end of the season, meaning he’d be available for clubs to approach freely in January, less than two months away.

However, to ensure that Gerrard stays with us for the rest of his career, chief executive Ian Ayre will meet with the midfielder’s representative Struan Marshall before Friday, with both sides keen on reaching an agreement.

Gerrard claimed that if he wasn’t offered an extension, he would continue to play on away from Liverpool next season – meaning rumours of a possible move to the MLS began to arise.

Thankfully, they were only rumours, and Gerrard should pen the last big contract of his career before the end of the November.

England internationals Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson are also discussing new contracts, as Brendan Rodgers is desperate to tie two of his most talented players to Liverpool for the foreseeable future.
