Liverpool’s £15m January target Saido Berahino arrested

Striker caught drink driving…

Young English forward Saido Berahino was arrested on suspicion of drink driving towards the end of October, the Guardian has revealed.

The West Brom striker was caught speeding on the M6 in the early hours of the morning, and was interviewed, bailed, and will now have to go back to speak to police again early next month.

A spokeswoman for Cheshire Police said: “At around 03.39am on the morning of Wednesday 22 October, a patrol stopped a car travelling at high speed southbound on the M6 near J20. A 21-year old man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving, interviewed and was subsequently bailed and is due to appear at a Cheshire custody suite early in December.”

The striker has been consistently linked to Liverpool this term, after his excellent start to the Premier League season. He’s notched seven top flight goals already, and was called up to the latest England squad as a result.

Reports have rated Berahino at around £15m, but with the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal also credited with an interest, he’d likely cost more considering his age and the current state of the transfer market.

It’s now yet known whether the drink driving allegations will affect the player’s form, and his subsequent chances of earning a January transfer to a bigger club.
