Glen Johnson will not ‘go crawling’ for a new contract

Englishman has yet to be offered an extension on current terms…

Glen Johnson has dropped the biggest hint yet that his future probably lies away from Anfield, the Mirror reports.

The right-back’s very expensive contract is up at the end of the season, and despite reports which suggested the club had offered him an extension with a 50% wage cut, Johnson’s not been presented with terms on a new deal.

“I’m not going to go crawling to anybody. They know where I am and they know the situation,” Johnson said.

“First and foremost, I want to play for a club that wants me. It is as simple as that. I want to play my football – time goes very quick.

“I have enjoyed my time here – the majority of the six years. There have been some good times, some bad times. I have enjoyed my football but if i haven’t got a contract, I can’t stay.”

The full-back scored a vital late winner against Stoke City at the weekend, and fans appreciated the bravery and commitment to the cause he showed by putting his head in a dangerous position.

Unfortunately, this probably doesn’t make up for some pretty abject defensive performances this term, which are made worse by the fact he’s the third highest earner at the club behind Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge.

In all likelihood, Johnson will leave on a free when the season is up – and we’ll try and bring in a direct right-back replacement.
