Brendan Rodgers says fighting spirit is back

The manager is pleased with recent performances.

Brendan Rodgers says the fighting spirit is back at the club after successive Premier League victories over Stoke City and Leicester City.

After drawing to Ludogorets in the Champions League thanks to a last gasp equaliser from the Bulgarians, things have been a bit more positive since.

Although hardly a convincing performance against Stoke at the weekend, three points was much needed and this was followed up by another win on Tuesday at Leicester.

It’s been a difficult start to the season and the lack of goals from strikers remains a worry – Adam Lallana, Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson scored in the 3-1 victory over the Foxes – but Rodgers is pleased with the improved form.

“We’re working our way back – the players battled really, really well [against Leicester],” the manager told the club’s website.

“You’ve got to earn the right to play football. After Palace, we recognised that’s important and the players that are in there are fighting, they’re working and getting the results.

“Bit by bit, we’re climbing our way back up the table again.”

Next up we face Sunderland at Anfield on Saturday and there is a great chance to make it three wins out of three against the Black Cats.
