Joe Allen is desperate for a Liverpool win versus Manchester United

Midfielder will gain inspiration from last season’s heroics…

Diminutive midfielder Joe Allen is hungry for more success against bitter rivals Manchester United, having been part of the side that so easily dismantled them at Old Trafford last term.

During our run of sublime form in 2013/14, we battered United 3-0 away from home, and it could, and perhaps should, have been by an even bigger margin.

However, this time around the two teams go into the fixture with very differing levels of confidence. While Louis van Gaal’s Red Devils have won five on the trot, we’ve stumbled to a 0-0 draw at home to Sunderland and crashed out of the Champions League during the past week.

“We had a fantastic result there last season, so we’ll be looking to draw some confidence and inspiration from that performance and we’ll go there and try to get the win,” the Welshman told Liverpoolfc.com.

“They are great games to play in between two clubs who are massive globally and there’s a great rivalry between the clubs. These matches are great to be a part of.

“Last season it was a great feeling to go to Old Trafford and get the three points and all of the players want that feeling again.

“When you are a kid, these are the kind of games you can’t wait to watch and these are the games that inspire all of the players in the dressing room as it’s great to be involved in. So we can’t wait for it. Both sets of fans can’t wait for the kick-off either.”

The win last season was one of the many highlights we enjoyed during an almost sensational campaign, in which we wowed the footballing world with a dynamic, exciting philosophy.

As we know, those kind of performances have not been so easy to come by this term, and we can only hope that Allen and co. can dig in and pick up a result that could kickstart our season.
