Respected journalist Tony Evans has claimed that Brendan Rodgers’ job is safe for now. The Times reporter has rubbished claims that the Liverpool boss is about to be sacked, citing to the lack of available replacements.

Evans said: “There’s no desire to sack him [Rodgers] at the moment. As for who would replace him, that’s part of the problem. There’s no way Klopp would come. Not a lot of viable candidates out there.”

The pressure is mounting on Rodgers after Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester United, the latest in a calamitous run of results for the Reds, who have won just nine of 24 games in all competitions so far this season, and also exited the Champions League last week.

The Northern Irishman has struggled to deal without star striking duo Luis Suarez (sold) and Daniel Sturridge (injured), who bagged over 50 league goals between them last season, while he has also attracted criticism for a poor summer transfer policy.

Rodgers spend close to £120m on the likes of Adam Lallana, Lazar Markovic and Mario Balotelli, but arguably none of his buys have had a positive impact on the team, or drastically improved last season’s squad.
