Have Liverpool really ‘agreed’ deal to sign Guillermo Ochoa…

According to the Daily Express, Liverpool’s goalkeeper search might already be over, with the national newspaper claiming the Reds have a deal in place to sign Mexico’s World Cup stopper Guillermo Ochoa.

The source claims that we have agreed a £3m fee with Spanish side Malaga, and that the player will be welcomed at Anfield at the start of next month, when the January transfer window opens.

Ochoa was linked with moves to both Liverpool and Arsenal last summer, when his contract at French club Ajaccio expired. But the 29-year-old instead opted for a move to Spain, where he has played second fiddle to Carlos Kameni.

Brendan Rodgers told Simon Mignolet that he had been dropped indefinitely ahead of Sunday’s game against Manchester United, while Ochoa began following us on Twitter on the same day.

Our new ‘number one’ – Brad Jones – looks to be nothing more than a temporary option between the sticks, while Rodgers continues his hunt for a new permanent goalkeeper.

The Express closes by stating that Ochoa will now be given a chance to stake his claim for a first-team spot at Anfield in the second half of the season, with Liverpool fans hoping he can reproduce the form he showed in Brazil.
