Blick, one of the biggest newspapers in Switzerland, claims that Bayern Munich have put a 15 million CHF (approximately £9.8m) price on the head of Xherdan Shaqiri.
The Swiss publication also state that Liverpool offered the Bavarian giants 24m CHF (£15.7m) in the summer, but that was rejected as they were not open to the idea of selling at the time.
A lower offer from Anfield would now likely be accepted, and Blick’s Football Editor Andreas Boni suggests a move to Liverpool (or – I’m afraid to say – Manchester United) would be ideal for the Switzerland playmaker.
Shaqiri had a brilliant World Cup with his country, earning the Man of the Match award in his team’s opener against Ecuador, and securing his team’s progress from the Group Stage with a wonderful hat-trick against Honduras, before an 118th minute goal from Angel Di Maria saw eventual finalists Argentina progress at Switzerland’s expense.
The 23 year-old is a tremendous ball-striker, a fine passer and tricky dribbler, but his weakness is a huge over-reliance on his left foot, and a poor defensive contribution. That lack of work rate out of possession may make Brendan Rodgers think twice, given the pressing game he is keen for the Reds to implement.
