Defender Martin Skrtel confirms he wants to stay at Liverpool for the rest of his career…

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has confirmed that he wants to remain at the club for the rest of his career, despite not having any plans for an early retirement.

The Slovakian, who turned 30 earlier this week, moved to Anfield from Zenit St Petersburg in 2008 and arguably had his best season with the club last time out, scoring seven goals.

Now, he is quoted as telling the Daily Mirror: “I think that I am still young mentally, but I feel quite old physically. I just feel at 30 that I have to treat my body better.

“Now I am in the gym more often and I try to spend more time regenerating. This is the only way to keep up with the younger players.

“I have also looked at other things. I have never enjoyed massages for example. But after discussions with physiotherapists I decided to go for massages twice a week.

“I would like to play as long as possible. As long as I am able to play abroad, I will stay there. But I wouldn’t definitely rule out the possibility of coming back to Slovakia.

“I can imagine staying at Liverpool FC until the end of my career. It depends on how often I will play as I grow older.

“If there are only two or three seasons ahead of me I would say definitely yes, understandable, but right at this moment I am not sure how long I will continue playing.

“Liverpool is a great club, one of the best in the world. During my seven years here I have had a really good time. The club and the city has become my real second home.”
